@momof3swimmers yes; I’m applying for eighth grade. I actually sent a personal email to my interviewer before, so she emailed me about the waitlist status.
Did anyone get off the Exeter waitlist? And is the notification (if I got off the WL) really a phone call? What if I’m not available to pick up at the time?
Called Hotchkiss admissions, confirmed they will not be taking anyone off waitlist.
@elielieli - Don’t worry… the school will leave your parent a voicemail message. It’s not like you’re on a game show and if you miss " the call" they’ll move on to the next contestant. All the best and good luck!
Exeter is probably going to take around 8 of the 700 wait listed kids. http://theexonian.com/2016/04/14/experience-exeter-hosts-prospective-students/
@rulerMA Nothing in that article points to them taking around 8 off their waiting list. Yes, it states that they were planning for 298 and 290 accepted, but that doesn’t necessarily mean they’ll take ANY off the list, let alone 8! The rest of the article specifically talks about wanting to keep their numbers lower this year and especially to not have too many boarders. They may decide that 290 is a great number at this time and take no one off the waitlist.
I think that the most important thing for everyone to keep in mind is that MOST people on any waitlist will stay there. Be realistic in your plans now for next year. My daughter was waitlisted at 7 schools and then also placed on the financial aid waitlist at an 8th school after being accepted! We are being realistic in our expectations of these waitlists…yes, it sucks to be waitlisted and to have to make other plans for the upcoming year especially when you may have no other options for this next year. The only thing YOU can change about that though is the way you react to it.
And…based on the limited reports here, calls to wait listed students have already been made. At least for the big post April 10/11 decisions I would gather. Trickles in the summer once bills are due maybe??
Again, it is exceedingly rare to be offered a spot off the waitlist for the most popular schools.
“On a positive note”, the later into the summer, the less likely school will get their first picks from the wait lists if they do even need to go to their wait list. Many of those who are still on the WL by then would have already moved on to an alternative plan, so the school might have to call 5 on the WL to fill their 1 opening. Part of the reason why they deliberately keep a big wait list.
Just called Exeter. They aren’t using their list. lol
I have heard of one acceptance off of the waitlist at Hotchkiss…
Regarding apparently conflicting stories about waitlists (see Hotchkiss posts #962 and #970 above)…it could be possible that both reports are accurate. A school may have taken people off the waiting list, but are not currently.
@rulerMA Oh, you must be disappointed. Really too bad. Are you still waiting on your other WL? Or are you now onto back up plans (and the slim chance of a phone call in June or August)?
@Gnomen16 . I’m disappointed because I know where I had a huge application flaw, but I was lazy to fix it. But on the other hand, a lot of other students deserve to be an Exonian more than I do. I’m on the waiting list for another GLADCHEMMS school. Most likely I’ll be LPS next year and I will most likely reapply. Thanks for looking out for me!
@rulerMA What’s LPS?
Local Public School
LPS=Local Public School
Local Public School
Looks like Choate WL is open until June.
I mean, if you’re not going to accept people from the waitlist, just full-out reject them.
