@sgopal2- Do you believe all PA “first round” picks are safe (no matter what) and that list is never tinkered with? Do you believe PA would never (ever) swap a FA candidate for a FP candidate from that list? How is their selection process more admirable than other schools? It’s all a variation on the same theme (or practice). The only difference (IMHO) is that Andover has honed and effectively nailed a brilliant marketing strategy.

I’m not being confrontational- I’m just curious.

@PhotographerMom : Mallick went onto say that after first round picks are made by each class officer then it goes to the director of admissions for final approval. I imagine there is some sort of swapping and changing until the final decision is made by Ventre but I honestly don’t think they take ability to pay into account.

Each class has its own “class officer” that makes a deny/admit/WL recommendation to the director of admissions. For example Vivian Mallick is the officer for day students. Before it even gets to the class officer, each application gets read by 1) Faculty member 2) Second faculty member 3) Interviewer and 4) Class officer. If the class officer recommends “YES” then it goes to the Dean for final approval. This is what Mallick meant by “first round draft pick”. By the time it gets to the class officer, a successful applicant needs 3 YES votes.

Also this year, Andover went all-electronic for their application reading. It seems pretty innovative. More details here in this Phillipian article.
