The Waitlist?

Hi everyone, great job on all the acceptances I've been hearing about! I do have a few questions however...

I was accepted to Stevenson, Emma Willard, and Thacher.
I was waitlisted at Cate, Andover, and Exeter
I was rejected from none.

I am ecstatic, yet I'm bit disappointed. I wasn't expecting anything from Exeter and Andover (they were reach schools), so I was surprised and excited to see I was waitlisted. But with Cate, I was really sad/disappointed. I had an amazing interview I thought. And, I worked extremely hard on my application, making sure every detail was perfect. And I know, I know, there are sooooo many applicants and all. Yet, I still am unhappy about the end result.

For the waitlist, I have a few questions:

I called Cate and asked how large the waitpool was. They explained it was very, very large. I expect the same for Andover and Exeter. So do I have a chance?

Cate said they don't rank in the waitpool, then how do they decided on who is accepted if needed?

For Exeter and Andover, do they rank students in the waitpool?

If so, is it appropriate to ask what my rank is in the next few days?

And, is anyone feeling what I am, happy, yet let down?

Thanks!

Everything you’ve ever wanted to know about a(nyone’s) waitlist is on the featured threads at the top of this forum. If everyone would post all their WL questions/insight there, everyone would benefit from being able to refer to a single source.

Of course, you are free to start new threads, but it gets hard to keep track of what’s going on if you do that, and I’m sure many people have your same questions/concerns.

Sorry! I’m new to collegeconfidential! @choatieMom

Oh my goodness, I was wait listed at Cate, too, and accepted at Stevenson! (Thacher wait listed me) I was super disappointed to be wait listed at Cate; it was my top choice. My parents say the wait list is filled with “niches”: someone else with a similar diversity to you is accepted, and if they say no, you fill their spot?
Anyway not sure if that was helpful but we both seem to be in the same spot. Competition… but honestly I think I’m going with Stevenson; they really wanted me and I think it’s best to be happy with what I have.
(Did you get drawings/notes on the back of your acceptance envelope from Stevenson, too? Just wondering :p)

Haha! That’s great! I did get the drawing on the envelope, too!
I’ll probably attend Thacher unless I’m taken off the waitlist at Andover or Exeter. Cate really was my second choice, but I just felt disappointed, you know? What grade did you apply for? I’m applying for ninth! And don’t get me wrong, it’s great to be accepted to Thacher. I love it and think it’s a great school! @aspiringmusician
Also, have you told your friends yet? I haven’t and I think I will within a week, but I don’t know how!

I’m 9th too! Yes I told all my friends. They knew about it from the start, so it wasn’t that hard. I texted them as each result came in. When I first told them I was applying, they were really sad, but I told them it was for the best. (They’re still not happy about it and one even cries whenever it’s mentioned so I advise you be more gentle with your friends than I was)
Thacher’s great, I agree! If you choose to go there, I hope you like it and get blessed with an awesome horse. :)

Haha thanks for all the advice. Yeah I’m nervous for telling them! Anyways, I was really happy about even being waitlisted at Andover and Exeter! @aspiringmusician

I was waitlisted at St. paul’s and milton

@boardingboarder Ahhhh Thacher was/is my dream!!! I got “wait pooled” though… that’s what they call it. I’ll probably go to Loomis next year if I don’t get pulled off of it. Believe me, I understand the slim chance of being pulled but I’m still hoping!

I was going to email Cate that I’d “remain swimming in the wait pool.” I held back… but it was hard.

@stargirl3 I’ve haven’t applied to schools since I got into my current school in Pre-K so this whole process is new… especially that torturous thing called the WAIT POOL.

@stargirl3 Im SOOO sorry to hear you got wait listed. I’ve rooted for you all along, and I want you to know that all the schools are idiots for not accepting you. No matter where you end up (pulled out of the waiting pool or no) I know you’ll do fantasically. Do you think there’s anywhere that you could make it into at this point? I really hope you do.

Hi. I am new to this discussion. My daughter applied to Exeter and Andover and was rejected by Exeter and wait listed at Andover. I called the AO and they told me that the WL was comprised of 25 girls and 25 boys for the 9th grade and they should know something about their yields after April 10th, I should call back then. Is this the same info everyone else is receiving? Thanks.

The numbers are unbelievably small.

Loomis waitlist has five to seven candidates in each of the various admission categories (9th grade boarding boys, 9th grade boarding girls, etc.)

ccyen,
what is your source on the loomis info as i heard larger numbers from the admission office

The waitlist letter from Loomis has that information.

TM,
I’m aware that’s what the letter said; however, when i spoke directly to our AO to follow up, I was quoted much higher numbers per category (for example 9th boy boarders WL had approx 25-30 names on it, according to what i was told), etc.

@cavamama69 I’m on Andover’s WL as well… those numbers seem really low.

I was told 7 girls on wL for loomis. Not sure how many of those need financial aid
