My daughter has been accepted to SLC and is strongly considering it. She intends to pursue a concentration in theater/acting. If there are any theater students at SLC or their parents lurking about I would love to learn more about the theater department at SLC. Thanks!

I can answer your questions about theater. Just shoot me the questions. Even though I’m not in the theatre program, I still know a lot about it and have a lot of friends in it.

Thanks! Do you know how much student interest impacts the choice of plays the department stages each year?

Well, student interest does impact the choice of plays the department stages every semester but not a lot. I mean, you can still do your own play if you act early and get together a good group of people (which they’re plenty).
Secondly, you can do a non theatre-departmental play. Only thing is you won’t be able to use the main theatre but that’s fine.
Also, they do take suggestions and I’d say about half the time they accept them.

Peter Pan is a non-departmental play being put on currently. Also, if you want to do a play, you can ask for funding also for it and if you’re early enough, then we’ll most probably give it to you.

My d and I went to the accepted students day a couple of weeks ago and spent a lot of time with theatre profs and students - we left impressed, so much so that she’s decided to attend SLC.

Congratulations Maggio! My D loved SLC, called it a fairyland. I think its a fantastic school. And it was a really hard decision but she has decided on Muhlenberg. Good luck to your D next year!

DS is very interested in studying theater at SLC. Some questions: (1) Are the theater professors truly accessible? It is wonderful that they all have multiple theater-related professional commitments, but does that mean they are available to students? Do they help with internships and contacts in NY or elsewhere? (2) What are the theater facilities like? Is there a main stage? Additional smaller venues? (3) Do we understand the overall curriculum structure correctly that you take 3 classes per semester - or do some of the classes last the entire year? We understand that theater has “components” within the theater third. Are most of these semester -long? (4) Do many or most of the theater students participate in the BADA London program? (5) We keep reading that the school empties out on weekends - everyone is in NY. Having the city nearby is a great advantage, but sometimes my son just wants to hang with friends, exchanging creative energy. Do SLC students do that? If the campus truly empties every weekend, that seems like a lot of pressure to find stuff to do off-campus. Can you comment on the social life? Thank you SO much!

Ditto on these questions. Anyone at SLC theatre look at/apply to Drew? Thanks!
