Kudos to your D, holly06! That's the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts, right? Doesn't Sir Paul McCartney have something to do with that school?

That is a long way away, at least for those of us who live in the US! Is it your D's first choice?

How did she audition? Did they send people to the Unifieds? Love to hear more, but the most important thing is to congratulate her! Well done! ;)

NMR, Thanks! I will pass on the congrats to my D.

Yes, Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts and Paul McCartney is considered the lead patron and co-founder. I believe one of the LIPA buildings was his old school.

It is not my D's first choice (nor mine...just a bit too far away for my taste), but they were in Chicago for the Unifieds and she did a walk-in. She actually did 7 walk-ins and so far she has been accepted to 3 of those. Go figure. I believe that LIPA is only present at Chicago Unifieds. She really liked the audition. They had callbacks and for the callback, they stayed for about 2 hours and did various improv scenes and scenes with partners. (I think that is what D. said....who knows what they did behind those doors!!).

LIPA is a very young school (1996). The literature states that "75% of the graduates are still working in the arts and entertainment sector after leaving us."

D.s parents are hoping she will find a school to attend in the states!!!

Very cool, holly06. I think it's great that your D took the initiative to do a walk in at Unifieds and did so very well! It's also nice that the school actually was able to spend a substantial amount of time with the auditioneers, so they could get to really see them, if you know what I mean. Congrats to holly06's D on her three acceptances, with fingers crossed for more to come. Should someone start an acceptances thread for drama school, or do you think most people post their kids' drama/acting acceptances on the MT board?

I got waitlisted at LIPA. I also did a Chicago Unified walk in and was called back but could not attend due to conflicts with other auditions. But I received a letter a few days ago saying that I was waitlisted. I thought LIPA seemed interesting but I am not looking to study abroad.

I would like the idea of an acceptance thread for Drama/acting but have not started a thread yet. Plus we have not heard anything yet. It is officially March in 44 minutes and we knew D would hear nothing till middle of March from her schools!! Region Literary competition all over Georgia tomorrow so she can tke her mind off of it!! Oh the waiting!!

I would also like to see an acceptance thread for Drama/acting. I have been posting acceptances on the MT board. Who should we ask about starting a thread like that?

NMR-Thanks for all your kind words.
After her cut from AZ, it took her a long time to build up the confidence to think she could even audition again. After a year of not taking any intense acting courses (year BA), she became very focused again, worked hard, and hit the audition trail this year with great heart and gave it her all!

Even if we don't see one more acceptance, this audition experience has been great and D. is back on track. We are so proud of her.

iacboi-LIPA did seem like a very cool school. If D. did go there, we could never afford to fly her back! lol

As someone in the profession in the UK - LIPA is fine and the training is not bad but in my opinion there are better schools for acting and MT in the UK. LIPA would not be my first choice. The pros and cons of non EU citizin (and Americans) studying acting or MT in the UK is covered in my book - gave it a chapter of it's own as I know it's an important issue. (So you want to tread the boards)

JIJ-Thanks for the info. What is the title of your book? What UK schools do you think provide the best MT and Drama training? More pros or more cons of non EU citizen studying acting in the UK?
Thanks in advance for any info you could share.

Haha no problem! ;) I recommend NCDT accredited schools, the 3 main MT schools in the country which don't have dance as very strong focus are Mountview, Guildford Conservatoire and Arts Educational.

holly06, I had not realized that your D had been at University of Arizona and was one of those cut. I am guessing you were part of that intense discussion on the U of Az thread about cuts? Once again, congrats to D on her acceptances, and congrats, too, for having a focused, determined daughter who forges ahead. I am amazed at how brave these kids are.

I did post when my D. was cut so that other students and their parents would be aware of the system at AZ. The discussion did get quite heated but I tried to stay out of the fray as much as possible. The system there is quite broken in my opinion.

You are so right about these amazing kids. What a way to have to get into college!?!?

Thanks for your kind words. Are you and D/S (?) in the waiting game also?

Yes, holly06, now I remember. I admire that you were out there, talking in public about what happened. I am sure that wasn't easy.
Yes, my D is a high school senior in the thick of her college admissions auditions. She has asked me to wait until all results are in before posting her news, so I am respecting that as her decision. The waiting is hard, isn't it??? :)

Last week I checked my S's Rutgers web account and learned that mid-year grades had not been posted (although they WERE sent). It was an error that was easily straightened out. In the process, I learned that Rutgers was still auditioning and that decisions based on auditions would not be made for "several weeks." Hang in there.

GiddyUpNow and thoroughlymodern, my D will be meeting both of you this weekend in Minneapolis. I hear it is expected to be 11 degrees there. That's gonna be an adjustment, as it is now about 60 where we live. Luckily, my hotel will be nice and warm ... best wishes to all who are going to the Minnesota/Guthrie callbacks!

GiddyUpNow, throughlymodern and NMR - wishing you (and all the others) the best of luck in Minnesota- I've told my d to watch out for both young ladies. She will be going with a good friend (male) who got a late callback - PS throughlymodern I've been emailing with your mom. PPS NMR try to stay warm!!! It's in the 70's here!
