Theater/Drama Colleges Part 11

My son auditioned at the Unifieds in Chicago with RSAMD. He had a great audition and connected with the staff that was there. He received a letter last week saying he was a finalist for admission and that he would hear from them in the next 30 - 45 days. Who knows about this program? When checking their website the last four graduating classes had 2 -3 Americans in them. Any help is appreciated.

blueroses1 congrats on emerson. my d audtioned that last day too and she was thrilled she got a callback. this is her first choice school. when she didn't get the call that first week in March she was dejected. but now we don't know what to think since so much time has passed and no letter, no call, nada. the waiting is agony.... wishing you the best of luck.

blueroses1: my comments are referring to SUNY PURCHASE not emerson. sorry for any confusion.

Maybe the big snowstorm pushed them back a little:)

tnactorsdad -- I have a former student who did the master's program in MT a couple of years ago and loved it! I think there may be someone who used to post on CC whose S is over there now? I think she used to post in the MT thread.

KatMT
Thanks for the info. I will check out the MT Tread

unmekidd, I don't know what to think either (about Purchase)! I too got a callback, and at that point they told us they would call accepted students the first week of March...I know a few kids who received rejection letters earlier this month, so I'm hoping the long wait means waitlist? I don't know what to expect.

i know blueroses1 it's hard to know what to imagine so we just keep hoping. my d said were you the girl with dark curly hair and hazel eyes? and you were at the carnegie mellon audition with her sister? anyway i will keep my fingers crossed for both of you..

haha No I'm not the one you're describing...but I did meet the same girl that day too!! Good luck to your daughter also!

I heard of at least one Purchase auditioner who got her "no thanks" letter on Friday. So letters of all ilk may still be on their way ...

notmamarose: have you heard of any girls who have received any acceptance letters, calls, emails yet for Purchase?

blueroses1: sorry, she thought she knew which girl you were. my d was with a multi-color multi-patterned silk blouse with black pants. you will all know soon. sending good thoughts your way.

Yes, I know of one girl who received a telephone call from Purchase in February saying she was one of their A-listers. I know of two other girls who got their rejection letters in mid-March.

NotMamaRose: thank you for getting back. by chance do you know if the girl you mentioned received a final confirmation//acceptance letter? other than the two boys on this thread who received purchase calls-- we don't know anyone who has heard anything from Purchase. i imagine we should hear something next week. it is so hard to see your d want something so much and all you can do is hope for the best and tackle the mailman the moment he nears our mailbox. hope your d or s has many choices in their college pursuit.

unmekidd, I don't think the girl in question has gotten a formal, official acceptance yet. In addition, I know a boy who got the phone call in mid- to-late February about being on the A list and from what I can discern, he has not received a formal offer yet, either. I am guessing (but tis only a guess, unfortunately!) that you are right and that formal offers and other decisions (waitlist, etc.) will go out this week. FWIW, I know someone now studying at Purchase and doing very well who got in off the waitlist. Know that my heartfelt good wishes and good vibes go out to your D as she waits. I am hopeful she will be getting good news! What a stressful process this is! (Thanks for the good wishes for my D. Her audition season is, thankfully, over. She is primarily a musical theater person and ended up with some wonderful schools to choose from. So now the stress is: which one to go to?)

Does anyone out there know anything about the theater department at Drew University? Is it worth attending? I am trying to compare it to the Theater program at Muhlenberg College. Thank you.

NotMamaRose: That is WONDERFUL news for your d! And what a relief for you. This is definitely the most stressful time as a mother I have experienced because you can't do much to help other than support and believe in them. After this time is over I am definitely going to go visit and hug my mother. Although somehow I don't remember my college search to be so agonizing--probably because I was not in mt or drama. This forum help to connect with lovely people like yourself who can relate to this unique experience. Thank you again for your kind words of encouragement. Let us know where your daughter makes her final decision.

so sorry for the double post

unmekidd, do not apologize! You are so right that this is a very stressful situation for parent and child. In fact, I daresay the kids get over the disappointments they face faster than do we parents! Know we are all rooting for your D to get that much-awaited YES letter from Purchase. :)

Anyone out West on this forum? It seems most of the talk is for schools out East.
