I just got a letter from Purchase saying that I am an "alternate" in this case that any of the already accepted students do not take their places...I assume this is aka the waiting list. I'm definitely gonig to stay on and in the meantime try to find out as much about the school as I can so if a space opens up I can make a decision!! I guess it's better than a rejection, but more stressful!

blueroses1, that's great news. As others have stated on the board, it's quite an achievement and it validates the fact that you were highly rated by Purchase.

My son is still waiting for his "waitlist" letter. The word "waitlist" was definitely the term used in our conversation with Purchase admissions office last week when the message on My Purchase website said "contact admissions.". I'm not certain if the term "alternate" is the same as "waitlist" or if there's actually some distinction in ranking system, etc. My guess is that they are one in the same and the Conservatory phrases it "Alternate."

You might want to call Purchase admissions in the A.M.to clarify. I am also not sure when the enrollment deadline is for accepted students. I would imagine it would be mid-May?

As with my son, he can only hope a spot opens up but realistically is not counting on it.

blueroses1, part of my post was cutoff. I wanted to wish you the best and hope things work out in your favor. I'm sure you worked really hard to get where you are today.

Thanks ProudDadFL...Best wishes to your son too, who knows, maybe we'll both end up in the program!! I'm not totally counting on a spot opening up either, but it's great to have been given a chance.

Anything further on Fordham as far as acceptances, waitlists, etc? I feel my student would certainly have heard of an acceptance now but wonder what the waitlist situation is.

I am still waiting to hear from SUNY Purchase and Fordham...aaaand I'm basically going crazy. I sent in my audition tape for Fordham about a week late so I'm sure my application wasn't really a priority...but I auditioned for Purchase on Feb 10 in LA.

I'm really not sure what to think. I was going to call them today, but it sounds like I'm not the only one waiting. I really don't think I'll get in, I was in a show at the time and so my audition pieces were just kind of thrown together. But that doesn't mean the suspense isn't killing me and I still have hope...(sadly)

Sorry for the double post, but I don't see an "edit" button... I wanted to add, my SUNY App status says, according to those key/symbol things...it's the lime green dot which means "sent to campus"...and details given for that are "This portion of the application has been sent to the campus. Contact the individual campus for admissions information."

Is my app where it should be then? I wish this was more specific.

EDIT: Just checked myPurchase instead of the status check...says "Please contact the Office of Admissions at 914.251.6300 regarding the status of your application."...so I guess that means they don't plan on sending me a letter anytime soon?

Son got ahold of Purchase this afternoon and they said that he was not accepted but was being brought up for consideration. I think as some other posters have alluded to, Purchase is dragging its feet with kids "on the cusp" in case some of their first choice students fall out. Headed to CCPA this weekend to give one more overview before he makes his final selection between: Roosevelt, Point Park or UArts BFA Acting programs. Any thoughts?

My D has a couple of friends who went to U Arts, during that time she visited and saw productions, thought they were extremely good and the students were quite happy there and graduated. She's quite discerning about such things and does not easily praise college productions.

tnactorsdad, if I were you, I would send a PM to MichaelNKat (who often posts over at the Musical Theater forums) about UArts. His D is an MT student there but he is very knowledgeable about the program in general and can tell you more about it in detail. In addition, nytheatremom also has an MT D there whose roommate is a BFA in acting and can talk to you about the program. We have visited several times and yes, the kids seem very happy and engaged and the program is rigorous. Congrats on your S's acceptances. It's so nice when they have choices!!

notmamarose
Thanks for the info. and yes it is nice to have a choice. I have been keeping up with the MT threads and have read the uarts discussions. I will reach out for more info. Does anyone know anhyone at CCPA I can contact? Best Regards.

blueroses1, son received his letter today. It says "alternate."

unmekidd, any news yet?

tnactorsdad, I know a girl in musical theater at Roosevelt.

Notmamarose
Would She Speak To My Son?

Okay, so I got a letter from Purchase today that listed me as an alternate. So...that's better than a rejection! I have to admit I was a little weary when I saw the small envelope.

I have two questions...1) How many people are usually selected as an alternate and what are my chances? 2) Will I hear back from them by the May 1st decision deadline for my other schools?

EDIT: third question...it says "If you wish to remain on the alternate list, it is important that you notify me, in writing, of your interest. I will send a copy of your letter to the Director of the Conservatory, to advise him of your continued interest"

...I feel like this is a stupid question, but is all I write just, "I am interested in staying on your alternate list"...or do I say more?

tnactorsdad--While I didn't get in, Roosevelt was my favorite audition even though it was my worst. I was really sick and the professor was just super nice about it and just really nice in general--very laid back and talked and joked with me beforehand and it really helped. I know someone who auditioned for their music conservatory and he said they were really friendly as well. And I've heard of students getting a lot of their program and really enjoying it. It was originally my top choice--they seemed to have a really great faculty. And I think Chicago is a good city to start in. It's not as overwhelming as NYC, but it still has a lot of theatre.

tnactorsdad, let me ask her and get back to you. PM me to tell me a few details, such as where you guys live and so forth, so I can tell my young friend who is going to be in touch.

Notmamarose

will do and thanks so much

Granuaile, I would be curious to know the answers to your two questions. My s is still waiting on a couple more schools too.

Best wishes to you.

There is quite a bit of discussion on the Musical Theater Wait List thread about what to do and what to write. It seems very unlikely that you'll know anything prior to May 1st.

Has anyone who was accepted to Fordham received a financial aid award yet?
