soozievt, that is my gut feeling. I'm glad you agree. One more week won't kill us, right??????

p.s. it seems from this thread that a handful of boys have already heard from SUNY. Just curious, are there any ladies out there who have been accepted?

unmekidd...what's another week???

I do think colleges should try to get decisions out by April 1 since the National Reply date to respond to offers is May 1 and students need to weigh their options and visit schools or revisit, etc. I don't really like when colleges respond THIS late. I actually think it is unwise on their part because students are already weighing their acceptances and their school is out of that loop and isn't being equally considered and some may psychologically even move on. Anyway, I am sure you can wait because you have waited this long, what's one more week in the scheme of things? Hang in there.

Not mama rose

Yes my student is still waiting to hear from Fordham.

soozievt: how did you know that is exactly what my face is looking like these days. That which won't break us will make us stronger. Thanks for all your support and insights into the process. You give so much of your expertise and I thank you for your generosity of spirit.

I was recently accepted into Chapman's theatre program, as well as accepted into UCSB's. I'm trying to decide between which one I should go to; I had to audition for Chapman, and they want to give me a hefty scholarship to go with it (13k), whereas UCSB is cheaper, but I don't think as selective of its theatre candidates. I know UCSB is a lot bigger and more of a party school, but is there any reason that one school would be better than the other?

I know of two girls who were rejected by Purchase and one who was waitlisted, as well as (and I just found this out) one who has not heard anything from them.

We actually checked online a couple days ago and the status went from "application in" or something like that to "Please contact admissions". When we called, we were told my S was waitlisted and a letter would be mailed this week. Other than that, we were unable to get info on whether there is a ranking (I believe there is) or whether all acceptances had been notified. Purchase was my son's first choice but given the odds of acceptance from the waitlist, he is getting excited about a couple more opportunities. He would thrive at this Purchase but I am a big believer that "things are meant to be."

I suppose if you haven't heard from Purchase yet, it may not be a bad sign. I understand that a few rejection letters were still received the past few weeks based on some postings. I would imagine there might be more waitlists on the way. Perhaps some spots are still being filled prior to some of these waitlists.

My son and I had the chance to visit Purchase this week. I am familiar with this campus, however, this was my son's first visit. The buildings are modern yet somewhat dated, however, the Conservatory of Theatre Arts and Film is very bright, clean and devoid of students in the hallway. They were all hard at work. This is not an overly large campus and the Arts buildings are located side by side.

We have no doubt that Purchase lives up to it's world renowned reputation for producing some of the most prepared working professionals in theatre and the arts. Although it is only 45 minutes from NYC, this is a very secluded and peaceful campus and a far cry from Urban or even Suburban sprawl. The Conservatory of Theatre Arts and Film is housed in a stand alone building along with the Conservatory of Dance.

When you read the Purchase COTAF brochure, the prospective student is reminded several times that this is a RIGOROUS program and students often work with faculty for 40-50 or more hours per week. Additional time is spent preparing, practicing and perfecting. It is very common for students to work on projects from 8:30AM -11:00PM and beyond many days. NYC? What's NYC?

Additionally, the Performing Arts Center is State-of-the-Art and attracts top regional and national talent. We are originally from the New York area and have seen many plays and top musical performances at Purchase ever since the kids were young.

There is a Facebook page for the Purchase acting Freshman Class of 2011.

Finally, I have learned that we can never research enough. MT and Acting tracks (and careers) it seems, are unpredictable at best. Purchase is an extremely selective, rigorous and labor intensive program. I mentioned to my son that I saw a post about Purchase being tough. He said "so?" Then shook his head like I said something really dumb and added "that's acting, nothing is going to come easy."

We are forging forward and perhaps in the back of our minds, there remains a glimmer of hope.

Best of luck to the Class of 2012!

thanks for the latest update notmamarose. do you know by chance when those girls who have heard found out? so strange can't seem to find any ladies who have heard acceptances. you seem to be so knowledgeable on these threads--do you dare suppose what to make of it all. I guess I'll just keep my dazed and confused look that soozievt so aptly characterized in her post.

ProudDadFl: It a big accomplishment for your s to make the waitlist at a prestigious program like SUNY Purchase. I believe I read in an earlier thread that there is a current student this year that made it into the program off the waitlist. So don't give up hope. I also subscribe to the philosophy that what is meant to be will be. I will keep fingers and toes crossed for your s. I just checked my d's suny account for the first time and it said "your app is currently under review. The admissions committee will contact you within the next few days should they require additional material or information in order to make a final decision." So all there is left to do is wait. Even our mailman is in on the act-- as he checks our mail first thing when he gets to the post office in the a.m. He says when it comes, he is coming to deliver to our house first. How cute is that. Good luck to your s in his decision process.

umekidd, I hope you hear some good news soon. I will keep my fingers and toes crossed for your d too. It is just a guess, but I think they may be down to final acceptances and waitlists at this point.

We opted to remain on the waitlist in hopes that a spot for his type may open up.

I agree with you that this is definitely "Be Kind to Your Mail Carrier" Month.

Proud and ume- hang in there, my son is seriously looking at UMinn's Guthrie BFA program as he really didn't like the look of SUNY or the isolation. We are going back next week so he can spend a couple of days in classes to see how it feels. At this point I would say there is a 50/50 shot of him giving up his spot. We'll be letting them know by end of next week.

unmekidd, the girls who have heard (I know of three of them) found out at different times. One got her rejection in mid-March and another got her rejection around the first of April. The waitlisted one had been phoned personally in mid-February to say she was on the A List but apparently got her waitlist letter in late March or early April. Hope that helps. I also heard from another kid that Purchase already held a reception for admitted theater/acting students on campus, but that was secondhand, so I honestly don't know if that is true or not. It seems odd to me that the school would have a reception when all decisions apparently have not been mailed out. (By the way, as someone else said on this thread, kids do get off the waitlist at Purchase. My D has a friend who was waitlisted last year at this time and is there now, working hard.) So keep the faith!

wow notmamarose...a reception for admitted acting students... dankennett, moviebuff2012, garyspaul were any of you invited to this reception???

Do NOT take that secondhand info as gospel. As I also said, I know of at least one girl (fabulous actor) who apparently has not gotten ANY word from Purchase and it would shock me if this particular girl was not offered admission, to please take that gossip with a grain of salt.

of course, I understand, no worries. I guess any word you hear makes you pause when so much is at stake. It's all good cause in the end what will be will be. Has your d decided where she will be attending next fall? If that's too personal please don't answer.

I hope no one thinks this is too far off topic - but my son wants to pursue theater education (I could see him also getting into directing or even playwriting, but he is quite focused on theater ed.) and has been accepted to Emerson for theater ed./performance emphasis (this is a BA admission by audition program)(also in the honors program), Vassar and Bennington. On any given day any one of the three seems like the top choice. He is going for overnights, etc. in 2 weeks. Money comes out about the same for all 3 between scholarships and fin. aid. Any thoughts for a kid who needs a lot of freedom, is passionate about theater and will thrive in an intellectually stimulating environment - any experiences with these 3 schools from a theater or academic perspective?

chris' mom

Emerson has a great network especially among writers, there's a bit of an "Emerson mafia" on the west coast, especially in TV. Bennington is entirely different, being small and a real liberal arts education, I know kids who have been very able to explore different artistic pursuits there, who were multi talented and uncertain which focus to follow. And every winter quarter do a required internship somewhere-often NYC, so there's good exposure to the pro world. However I know nothing about either school as far as theatre ed. If setting matters it is isolated, and you can't just hop on a train and be in NY in 40 minutes like Purchase or Vassar[well Vassar's farther, but still NYC is easy to get to.]

I don't recall an invite from Purchase, although we may have just dismissed it out of hand as we are in CA. We have had invitiations from others though.

My son tried calling Purchase this morning and told the person to talk to won't be back until 2 PM EDT. He plans to follow-up after school. He auditioned 2/24.
