Theater/Drama?

Does anyone know about the theater/drama department at AU?

I’m assuming that AU doesn’t have very many theater majors… but is it an active program? Can regular students participate in their productions? Are there classes available as like gen-ed requirements or anything?

I’m just curious, because I’m interested in acting, but I don’t want that to be my major or minor at all.

All AU productions are open casting and many of the performers are not majors. There are classes available for non-majors as well, including some which count towards your gen-ed requirements.

I’d add that there are many very talented students in the musical theater and theater programs and there is significant competition for roles in the AU productions, and while there is open casting, a core of students, many of whom are majors, seem to get cast over and over. So basically you can’t assume you’d be able to participate. I’m aware of a student-run Shakespeare company that is less competitive, not sure if there are any other student-run troupes.
