Theatre at Wooster

D and I visited College of Wooster and she absolutely loved it, as did I. But she was a bit discouraged after talking to a theatre professor who led her to believe that she did not have the background and portfolio to study technical theatre at COW, specifically set design, lighting and costumes. D said the professor seemed to think she was interested in a BFA, but she specifically wants a LAC to be able to study both technical theatre and English. D has worked on all her HS productions as set crew, running crew and assistant technical director. Does anyone know something about theatre at COW that would help her make an informed decision on whether or not to keep Wooster in the running?

Hmmm. I don’t know a lot about theater at Wooster, but I have to think your daughter has as much experience as most entering students.

I’d get in contact with the Wooster admissions rep for your high school or state. Tell him/her about your concern. Are you willing to make another visit to campus? What about scheduling a visit during a student theater production? The college might be able to put you in touch with a current student or alumna/us who was involved in theater.

Keep in mind, also, that your daughter could change her mind about her major.

Thanks, ici. I will contact the Wooster rep and see what I can find out. Contacting a current theater student may be just what D needs.
