Things that make you feel young

I really try not to fall into the “back in my day” rhetoric and suggest that everything in the past was better. I also feel pretty good that I can (mostly) keep up with the 30- and 40-somethings in yoga, pilates, and barre and I’m way over 50–in fact, closer to 70 than 60.

The way my DH makes me feel despite what I see in the mirror. The fact that people always have to ask again when I tell them how old my oldest child is

Currently, my new bike and Zwift program aren’t making me feel younger because I’m so slow, but I’m determined to change that. I love “racing” through Paris, New York City, etc. - I linked my iPhone to our big screen TV. Birds chirping, crowds cheering, and people from all over the world biking with me. I do feel young being able to figure out all the technology! It was a pretty big effort to get it all to work. The bike automatically provides resistance so I feel like I’m going up and down hills. It even takes into account my weight, so as I lose weight, it will be easier to go uphill. When I ride a course more than once, a ghost avatar of myself appears, representing the speed I rode before. If I’m slower than I was before, that dang avatar is ahead of me, mocking me. It was not a cheap setup, but it makes exercising fun.

Keeping up with technology. People that are my age and have to write a check because they don’t know how to Zelle pay or Venmo etc are the people I don’t want to be.

Did you see Depeche Mode on Colbert? WTH happened to them. It was pretty sad. Like an old man cover band.

Working with lots of younger people. And being the only one in the “older” crowd that can still pass de-escalation training (that includes restraints and escorts).

Quoting myself to clarify, I listen to current music by new bands and also current music by older bands. One of my fave new bands is The Beths from New Zealand.

Do you use it daily and is it drying? I’ve tried some retinol creams but even just a few times a week results in dry flaky skin.

Doing things with my kids and/or their friends. We have a family play list on Spotify that everyone adds to. We listen when we play cards or games. Keeps me up on current music. Travel. Camping. Staying active (skiing, hiking). Wearing heels.

Maybe they aged about 30 years? Can they still play music?

Hi @taverngirl, I think it really depends on your skin type. I have always had horrible skin. I got a sample from Sephora. They gave me a rinky-dinky tube size of it.

I originally just wanted to learn what to do with my make up, with my skin type, and they gave me a bunch of skin “correction” samples. (I’ve always had lots of blackheads and oily skin in some sections of the Tzone, but dry skin on my forehead.) The young ladies there said I really needed to focus on my skin before I even attempted to use any make-up on it.

I joked about making someone’s commission and that’s when the young lady gave me a bunch of samples. She also recommended that I use an oatmeal cleanser (mornings and evenings) and said that I could pick up a really inexpensive one up at Target. Which I did.

Before I used the micro-dose, I looked up the research. You use a pea-size amount on your face at night, then, when you look in the morning, there’s a huge difference. I’ve been using it now for about a month and a half and it’s very noticeable. You have to be really careful and just use a teeny tiny amount. This dry winter we’ve been having in Southern California, has dried my skin and the Kiehl’s has actually has helped my skin. The oatmeal liquid soap I got at Target seems to be really good at clearing up the blackheads. The Kiehl’s Company has a chat online that you can access on their website.

Definitely wasn’t the same. Didn’t seem right.

Going back to the same ‘health spa’ for almost 30 years and still doing that danged mountain. Slower and no longer leader of the pack. But well in the front of the middle of the pack.
