Things you need to know before going off

Have any of you had experience with "student accnt" credit cards? My D will be a going away in the fall and does not have any kind of credit card yet. She earns all her own spending money (we pay for most clothing--and she's frugal) but basically it's a cash enterprise. My bank offers a student accnt which includes a credit card w/a pretty low credit limit (the limit is set by the bank I believe, not by us) and on-line banking services, plus checking accnt if desired. She would build up credit and do her own banking. We could electronically deposit money into her account to supplement her work-study money or whatever she earns. It would be a BofA account, so undoubtedly there would be an available office where she is going. Any other suggestions?

Deathsadvocate, don't count on that fraud protection too much, it can be a real hassle to deal with. A friend of mine had about $400 stolen from his checking account with his ATM card from a bank that has fraud protection, it took him months to go through the bureaucracy, and I'm still not sure that it ever got resolved.
