Think we have it bad? Look at korean testing standards!

^ Yes. By the way, are you Sam from Kansas?

White people don't take education seriously enough. I don't hate white people, trust me, most are my friends! but the fact of the matter is that they party too much and don't put much effort toward academics. Don't hate me...this isn't a racist report! j/k

Way to stereotype. I hate how you think that ALL white people just party through college. Some of us strive to do things other than party. Wait, why am i even on this message board? I should be out drinking vodka and smoking.

Why is racism acceptable when it is from Asians to other races but not when it is from whites to blacks, for example?
Cause we're actually better...well..that doesn't answer the question exactly. Um - It's the same reason blacks can have so much BLACK pride and stuff but white pride is seem as racism. It's the same reason affirmative action exists. Stuff like that.

The problem stems from the fact that in the US there are enough universities to accomodate everybody at a place that is equal to their mental ability. In most asian countries, there are not. Therefore, this competition is required.

Hey guys, if you really want to know what goes down in your average Asian student's life, you may want to check out my blog. Among other things, Malaysian students have...
* Segregation in elementary schools
* Almost daily tuition for every student not living in a rural backwater
* In some cases, schools hold the tuition and make it mandatory
* Incompetent teachers say things like "red blood cells prevent from sick" and get away with it because everyone "learns" at tuition
* our geography test requires us to memorise the number of oil rigs in each state

And we're not even a competitive Asian nation.

spartan phoenix (more like wimpy fool i think) you need to get out more

Sorry, mystic gohan, i truly respect Bruce Lee's work & abilities, however he is certainly not the "best" actor.

It's as bad in India.. Lotsa 10th and 12th graders commit suicide as they cant handle the pressure of nation wide board examinations ...... It's worse for those who plan to apply to the Indian Institute of Techonlogy..

Romania has similar problems. I was there last summer right during the high school 12th grade exams and there were dozens of suicides all across the country. One kid in my cousin's class jumped in front of a train. Since I was raised there, I grew up with an intense fear of "failing" anything related to school...but it's hard to see how someone can justify suicide

Yup, I also grew up there corinao, and the kind of stuff that happens during bac season scares me.

are you saying that white people are better than black people? then you should start your own white supremacist group, you loser. WOW, if only I were talking to you face to face

Um, you guys aren't sticking to the topic :-). Seriously, listen to me...I'm 14 and I'm more immature and stuck up then you'll ever be, and I don't get off topic.
My cousins live in China, and it's horrible because they start school at 6 in the morning, and finish school at 9 at night. This doesn't even include coming home to do homework. Of course, they did test into the top high school in the city, but because of the educational system, Chinese kids have no time for extracirriculars. It is impossible when you're at school from 6am to 9pm. That is why if you wanted to be a ballet dancer in China, you'd give up a chance at attending a top university. China has an immense population, and it's very competitive.
My father told me, "Education is the only thing that children in China have". Test scores are their only way to get a better life for themselves.

I'm in korea right now and i just met some of my friends yesterday. Anyways they said they have a practice test today. It starts at 8 in the morning and ends at about 6. Also they even told me about a guy from our school who committed suicide. They came out of the so-called 'voluntary studying period' to see me. They said if you get caught sneaking out you're in trouble. Anyways they seemed to be having a tough life. One sad thing I noticed was that their thoughts were sort of restricted. When I told them about my double major plan they were really surprised and advised against it. Anyways back to point. Test scores are everything there. For top universities they first cut people during the admissions process based on GPA then it's interview and writing. My friend who is like 2/456 in the school was worried that he was going to get cut in the first round. This just shows how score based education is in korea.

If you can't handle the pressure, just move to America...don't make such a big deal about it.

glucose101, my cousins would love to come to America. But where's the money?

imiracle, that's what happens in korea. that's why people who have money all come to america or send their kids to international schools because they don't want their kids to be subjected to such nonsense.

glucose101, even if they did want to leave Korea for America, in addition to financial problems as x__infatuation mentioned, it's often hard to get a visa to enter the US. My cousin lives in China, and wasn't even able to get a visitor's visa to Canada, never mind a student visa. And from what I've heard, it's easier to get in to Canada than into the US.

confidential and ForeverZero

Is there as website for the comic, if so i'd like to see it...
