Thinking about transferring...

Athletic teams at Grinnell are Div. 3.

Attending a LAC is a great background for law school. I'm an attorney in private practice in Minneapolis. I attended Lawrence University, another LAC, not quite at the level of Grinnell or Carleton. I went to law school at the University of Minnesota (FWIW a top 25 law school). Knowing how to read, write and analyze is key for law school. There were lots of Carleton grads and other LAC grads at my law school. Many did extremely well in law school. They were also used to the greater level of required participation that you have in law school - probably a function of the smaller classes at LACs. Both Carleton and Grinnell are great schools, as are the others mentioned in this thread. We are looking at both of them (as well as Barnard, Kenyon, Reed and Whitman) for our oldest daughter, although she has a couple years to go yet in high school.

I don't think you could go wrong with either Carleton or Grinnell.

Hi,
I'm preparing for my transfer application now, and I hope to receive some advice from people who has already been inside scope.
-my GPA (at the end of this fall): 3.5-3.6
-helping with two professors as an assistance
-working for a big bank for two months
-a member of Investment Banking club (I want to major in Finance.)
i think that's all. What should i do to better my chance? Become a president of a club sounds impossible for me b/c i don't enjoy my very fake school now (that's the reason i want to transfer.) so it's difficult to play a "popular" role.
also, abt the essay, i found Grinnell through a Grinnell-er'05. He's good speaker and i was impressed. But i dunt feel that reason is strong is enough. My truth is very poor.

Why do you want to transfer to Grinnell? You need to be able to put that into words. My son had visited campus before he applied, so that helped, but you need to figure out why the school appeals to you. Academic excellence? Something about the students? Look at some college guides, such as the Fiske or Isider's Guides and read the descriptions of Grinnell and Grinnell students. That might give you some sense of why the school would or wouyldn't be a good fit for you and you for it. How were your test scores?

My test score is above average, and it's impossible for me to take it again, at least in this time.
I did do my homework.I was impressed by the Grinnell kid I met, very intelligent and funny, so i felt i want to go place of people like that :).
Thank you though.

Well, that is a great description of Grinnell students--"very intelligent and funny"--and I think you can write an excellent "Why Grinnell?" piece based on that. The important thing on essays is to let your true self shine through. Good luck!

Well my problem is the same. I want to transfer and I am involved in some clubs (members) but how do I show my real passion and involvement?
