Thinking of transferring to MIT

I posted a similar thread in the MIT section as well but haven't got any responses yet.

My main question is how much do SAT scores count when applying to transfer to MIT?

My scores are low with 1840 and only 6xx in math ll and biology e for subject tests. However, my current college gap is 3.92 with only one B in english. My other coursework includes physics, calculus, biology, chemistry and organic Chemistry. The other main think I feel my application would offer is research and job experience. I was on the UCSF team for two years for an international competition for undergrads called iGEM. This competition is actually hosted by MIT and one year our team won an award or the best new application for our project. Also when I wasn't working for the ucsf team I was doing other research at ucsf assisting a post doc with his research. I am currently performing research on a project as directed by a project manager and will continue doing so until I transfer. I also want to point out that my first year I was on the ucsf igem team, also the year we won an award, was right when I got out of high school during the summer so I had no college coursework at the time.

Do you think this would be enough to make up for my low sat scores? Or should I forget applying at all because my scores are so low? Believe me, I know they're low and even feel a little embarrassed to be considering MIT with those scores.

The problem is that every single applicant has ecs that are either similar to or better than yours.

Plus, the median range for admitted students’ SAT scores is from 2120 to 2350, which tells you something important.

I am in a very similar situation to you, so let’s be objective about out own situations.

Does anyone know, if you are trying to transfer to MIT, and plan on studying a social science, do you still need to take a signficant amount of science/mathematics courss?

I’m gonna say yes you probably need science and math courses because it is after all a technology school

Anyone who got into MIT care to comment about their ECs?
