carpediem: No apology needed but thanks anyhow. You're a nice kid - you are a kid right, and not a parent? Good luck with college.

mominchicago- yes i'm a kid... a waitlisted one too...

I'm a WashU student and unlike many other students a other elite univesities I get no pleasure bashing one school and praising another. I think that is something that differentiates a WashU STudnet from many of these other "overqualified " students that where waitlisted. Would I really want to sit in class with a person like that. Definitely not...Good job admissions. Let leave all the arrogance for the "elite" schools. Oh and btw, I did get accepted to other "elite" schools and chose WashU because I enjoyed its nurturing environment. Enough said....

Peechypears, did you spell check and proof read your application to Wash U?

WashU has very talented admissions people!!! They had 22,000 applications to review in two months. They not only picked the best and brightest, they also weeded out the arrogant. No arrogance at WashU!!!! I guess that explains the admissions process at WashU.

It depends on how you define arrogance. I find some of the WUSTL community has become quite arrogant.

I was attempting sarcasm. WashU seems to think that anyone who questions their admissions process is arrogant.

I think that Wash U’s admission officers try their best to find the class they think it would fit better; usually they have very good results. I didn’t find arrogant kids there yet, most the kids I know are excellent students, very bright and they never brag like “I was admitted to all the Ivies” or something like that, and as a matter of fact, many of them declined their admission to more than one top ten school to go to Wash U. Kids over there are very friendly and caring.

How do you know that many of them declined admission to more than one top ten school? It sounds like those WashU kids were doing a whole lot of bragging!!!! Don't you think so? Aren't you saying that WashU is actually full of arrogant kids??? Also, it seems as if these kids and parents are very critical of others.

Like most people, just tired of whiners. The past is done. Most of those who have concerns have many choices. Time to take one and get excited for the fall. If you are smart enough to play the game you ought to know the rules and the risks. Continual attacks on admissions committees of any university accomplishes little. Nobody but them has read the files. Perhaps you should go over to the "Stanford sucks" thread.

I rest my case. Thank you oldolddad.

Collegekidsmom,
Actually my S met a few of his classmates at the other colleges' visits for those admitted when they weren't decided yet, and even if they didn't talk about it later, that was how they met.
As you see here, this thread is for Wash U and it's obvious that they would defend the college they love. I don't understand why people are posting here just to criticize this school, because most of them said they don't even care about Wash U.

I love WASH U in ST LOUIS!!!!!!!!!!
I love WASH U in ST LOUIS's ADMISSIONS OFFICE!!!!!!!!!!!
I cant wait for WASH U in ST LOUIS!!!!!!!!!!!!

For all of those waitlisted there is no need for bashing Wash U for waitlisting you. You should be posting at the University forums where you have been accepted and/or plan to attend during the fall. You should be celebrating!!!!

Be Happy at the university forums where you have been accepted to
There is no need to ruin the fun for people who can't wait to go to WASH U, a great school in my opinion ^^

I had dinner with an admissions officer last week, not from WashU but another highly ranked college. More apps than WashU and several different deadlines. The person told me that day after day calls were received from parents and counsleors, some screaming at her, saying that a student had been wrongly denied. They always would rattle off lists of all those other students who got in even though they had worse stats etc. It did not matter that two or more people had read the application and that any disparity would be looked at by still another and that several different folks had to sign off. The callers were all sure there had been an injustice. She seemd honest sensitive and smart. I do not think she felt that their system or any other was perfect but they tried as hard as they could to make the best choices. She feels the whole process has gotten way too emotional and overblown. I would hate to be in that job.
The schools make choices to do what they think is best given the circumstances. Fortunately, there are hundreds of good colleges so not liking a couple or not liking how they do their admissions should not affect anyones opportunity to get a fantastic education.
