Should I be cramming? I've only been studying about 2 hours a week (at the library) reading and doing practice problems from the Princeton Review. Should I be studying every chance I get, or is it too late?

Anyone else taking it for the first time on Saturday? What are you doing to prepare?

All but one of my closest friends are taking the SAT for the first time on the 14th. I must say the atmosphere is quite intense right now. When I was preparing to take the test for the first time in January, I studied up until the day before (which is when I got sick). I really suggest looking up old essay prompts and just coming up with a thesis sentence and 2/3 examples for each. But it's also important to note that the connections you make between your examples and thesis are paramount.

Study enough, but don't study until you are disgusted with every SAT related thing you see.

All the SAT determines is where you'll be getting your college education, the people you'll meet(and consequently never meet), whether you'll find the love of your life, the job you'll be landing after graduation, your political orientation, the city you'll raise your children in (if any), and the graveyard you'll be buried in.... Absolutely no biggie.

Seriously chill, and remember, you can retake.

Yeah, I'm taking the SAT for the first time this Saturday too...I haven't studied for it at all yet. I'm just gonna try my best and see what happens...

I have a lot of friends doing the same thing as White Sox. Just "seeing what happens". I've been studying consistently. Every time I open the Princeton Review book I learn something new. I dunno if that's good or bad.

That's a good idea, Velleity, I think I've been neglecting the essay!

I'm taking it on Saturday also for the first time and I've been studying for the last month and a half for about an hour a day. I think the worst you can do now is to go into the SAT anxious and tired from cramming. Just take the first time more as a practice for the next time you retake it. My sis didn't study going into her first one and she did well (upper 1300s) for her first time so maybe you'll get lucky. Also, bring candy in your pocket as energy boosts and eat them every other section. Good luck!!!

This is my first SAT too...I also kinda let the SAT slip by and have forgotten to study. I am currently going over essay techniques, as I did a bit of PSAT prep which is similar to SAT prep. I think I will read Barron's "2400" book, but I have yet to take a full practice test. I think you will be fine at this point...just don't study Friday!

Take at least one full practice test from the Blue Book under timed conditions and with one extra 25 min section (from another test), say math. After checking your answers score the test, excluding one long math section on which you performed best. Very important: analyze your mistakes!

I'd suggest saving two available College Board practice tests for preparing for the next SAT.

I'm taking my first (and hopefully last) SAT this Saturday too. I've been studying from November. I basically read the entire CB BB review sections until January and then took practice tests in sections. So in total, I have 5 practice tests and 2 PSATs under my belt. Now, I'm just reviewing Sparknotes SAT book and reviewing Math skills. Hopefully, this is enough perp. Good luck everybody!

it depends. i took the SAT the first time in 7th grade, so it didn't count. don't cram unless you're a junior/senior. that way, you can get accurate results if you want to retake it

I'm also taking the test this Saturday. I basically just started studying for it. I'm using the BB, doing practice tests without timing myself. I'm going to start timing myself on Wednesday. I think that's a good strategy, if you wanna call it that
