She was in one episode last year as well.
I didn’t recognize South Street and I haven’t been there in a long time. I have a former co-worker who is high up in marketing now at Rita’s and she was really excited about the episode. I tweeted at Rita’s about it!
I liked Skye, too. I googled her and she is an Air Force veteran!
This was Ken Olin’s love letter to Philadelphia. He’s a native. Remember “Thirtysomething” took place in Philly.
I watched this episode off my dvr last night. My local station cut in with election coverage just as Randall was starting to read the poem to Jack and that was it for the episode for me. What did I miss during the last moments?
@2VU0609 , the poem was I, Too by Langston Hughes. Randall had memorized it, and Jack seemed to appreciate that there’s a black identity Randall wants and needs and comes to peace with the idea that he can’t fill that niche for him.
So far this season is one of the best (to me) - there are some superb moments, nuanced acting and interesting story lines. The tension between Kate and Toby really gets under my skin, but that only proves how real it is.
Next year is the last, right?
They say 6 series. So 2 more after this one.
The parallel scene of opening the door to the dinner guests was heart melting.
Correction: He’s not a native. He went to University of Pennsylvania.
I thought this episode was very well done I knew I would be treated to a view of boathouse row once Deja mentioned lights in the summer. It was fun to see Rita’s. Even the bus stop was familiar. The acting was good enough to make the dinners uncomfortable to watch.
Randall and Beth make me LOL so often - the wine in the pantry!
I also love how Beth and Randall are pretty typical in terms of parenting and sometimes just freak out. But in the end, go back and make the situation right.
Deja’s way of showing her emotions - very, very effective. Really wonder where all this will go.
I like Malik’s dad but his mom is hard to warm up to!
Also, how honest little Annie is. LOL!
I appreciate when every episode is not a “WHAT?!” episode. Still each one is emotional to me.
I thought Annie had the best line of the show. Beth’s wine in the pantry was a close second. Annie’s line and everyone’s reaction made me laugh. It was perfect.
Loved the episode! Esp all the philly scenes. For some reason I thought Randall was in West philly, which would make more sense to me than north philly.
Loved seeing the magic gardens and boathouse row on the screen.
The scene at the end with the poem was great.
I can’t think of too many shows currently in TV that address race like this one does. Sure it’s a little too pat but it’s more than what I’ve seen on other series.
The wine in the pantry was awesome. I’m really liking the addition of Malik’s character. I keep wondering though when his request to his boss at the car place to get in on “the action” or whatever he called it is going to come back into the story.
Oof. This episode hit me in the feels.
This was another good one. Next week is the mid-season finale. It will be hard to watch what happens with Rebecca - hits too close to home.
This episode got to me too. I felt so bad for Randall & could relate to what he’s going through.
Does anyone remember how far into the future last season’s final scene was? 10 years? 15 years?
Anyone else hoping Rebecca doesn’t have Alzheimer’s and Randall’s plea with her to see a doctor leads to discovering some treatable condition that is causing her behavior change? Although from my very limited experience with Alzheimers, those behaviors – anxiety and anger in the way they are portrayed – are very realistic. I thought the flash forward had been said to be 15 years into the future. Seems it would have to be at least that based on the aging of Tess and Randall.
And on a much lighter note, baby Jack is totally adorable. Those must be fun scenes to film. I noticed that avocado, or whatever they were filming with to look like avocado, didn’t actually get far that into his mouth before they cut away.
So is that the end of our time with Cassidy?
Ugh, hard to watch since I have a 59-year-old friend who has been exhibiting similar behaviors for awhile now.
