This Is Us. Anyone watching?

If you follow any of the cast on social media they are usually pretty vocal about when they are starting to shoot a new season. It’s like the first day of school for them.

I’ve seen nothing on social media to indicate shooting. Unless they are doing something super sneaky quiet. Sterling K Brown posts some pretty funny videos of his real life wife though!! That is one high energy household!

Council of Dads was mentioned earlier. It was just cancelled after only 9 episodes. I liked some of the actors but it didn’t seem to catch on the way This Is Us did. I’m guessing the current Covid situation, lack of filming didn’t help? Not an established series yet that might have weathered the storm.

I just happened to catch Council of Dads, partial episode, first time tonight. I realized I’d need to start from episode 1 for it to be meaningful.

Anyone see this essay by Lonnie Chavis, who portrays young Randall, about his experiences being Black in America?

^^That breaks my heart. I really hope we start to see change.

That was a poignant read. :frowning:

I have all 9 episodes on our dvr…hadn’t gotten to them yet. Guess I will just delete them.

So incredibly sad to read about his experiences. Things have to change.

Not to get off track, but this happened in Madison, WI.

They called her a racial slur, sprayed her with lighter fluid, and lit her on fire. I cannot believe it happened here. It’s so scary. The world seems a little worse everyday. Things have to change.

That was a heartbreaking read from Lonnie Chavis - ALL children should be playing and being goofy, not worrying about what the color of their skin means for their lives. We (worldwide, but I’m talking about the US now) need to change, and we need to do so yesterday!

The essay was heartbreaking and unfortunately not uncommon.

As for Council of Dads, it really missed the mark. It just seemed to be trying too hard. Even though This Is Us can strain credibility at times, the myriad of issues played out over time. Council of Dads tried to do it in the first few episodes. Some of the acting was good, but it just didn’t come together.

Council of Dads really felt contrived to me.

I thought the Council of Dads actors were very good, that was initially worth watching. But too much drama, too many story lines, one thing after another with too many characters that we didn’t have enough investment in to keep it going forward, especially in the middle of a pandemic!

The writers threw in everything but the kitchen sink to try to tug at the heartstrings, including but not limited to-cancer, widowhood, alcoholism, adoption, paternity, parent/child estrangement, sexuality, illness, childbirth, flood, famine, locusts (oh wait, maybe not famine or locusts!). They did not thankfully see ahead to coronavirus!

Just saw an ad for 2 hour Premiere of This is Us on November 10. No time listed.

Are they back filming shows?

I’ve been hearing that some shows are starting back up. But also that you can expect reduced episodes for this season not only due to time but due to increased expense of filming due to COVID.

If they are expecting a Nov 10 premiere that is a good 6-7 weeks later than usual season launch. So instead of mid summer start to filming maybe they are having a post Labor Day start to filming.

Just saw on NBC instagram post that the 2hour premiere will be on October 27. No time listed.

^^^ Yes, they bumped the season premiere up 2 weeks today so that it will be October 27 instead of a November date.

News today-Mandy Moore is pregnant with her first child, a boy, at 36. Happy for her!
