This Is Us. Anyone watching?

I’m not sure I will watch. i’m in Central Texas and a member of Moms Demand and have been invited to a Zoom with Shannon Watts. I think I’ll wait and try to stay off this thread. I just can’t concentrate right now.

I don’t blame you. Some of us have the luxury to use it as a diversion. Not everyone is that lucky.

Shannon Watts is amazing. Thank you for fighting the good fight on the front lines.

OMG so sorry to the families in TX! TV is the least of your worries at the moment.
This episode is already jumping around a lot. Need to pay better attention to follow all the differing years and groups of characters.

I saw an article that characterized this episode as a big hug after last week’s emotional tearjerker. I think that was spot on. It was a very sweet episode, especially as it ended with a little moment with the Big Three connecting on the cabin steps. It is the often the little moments that bring the most joy and on a day like today, that seemed more true than usual. I grieve for those whose little moments of joy have been ripped from them forever.

I am visiting my sister and we watched together. We both thought the finale was just okay . Expectations were high though.

Thought it was good, not great. But likely my expectations were just too high. Wanted more glimpses of the next generation - not just Jack but Deja and her baby and the others as well. Interesting that Kevin said he wanted to spend more time at home, focusing on the non-profit, suggesting he continued acting and was not home with Rebecca all of the time.

Not sure there could have been a finale that would have been totally satisfying as we say goodbye to truly a great show. Will miss our discussions here. Not sure there is a show that will take its place.

I watched it last night after the show had finished taping. Yes, definitely a distraction from the horrifying news.

Maybe it was the news, maybe it was the expectations, but I thought the episode was just ok. I was hoping for more reveals about the future, but there was none of that. I did like Randall’s speech - the thought of how life goes on, despite having lost someone that close. Very closely mirrored what I’ve been thinking as we hit the 1 yr milestone of dad’s death.

I thought it was excellent. DH is not a fan of the show but he’s watched a few episodes and saw this one with me. Even he thought it was really good. It made me think of many small scenes from my childhood with fondness.

I watched it just now, though the NBC stream was really choppy in the last 10 minutes, making it difficult to get lost in the emotion of it all. I’ll watch again later with dh and hope the stream is better. The most touching part for me was Deja telling Randall that she was naming her son William and then his dance and excitement at another boy in the family.

I liked it because I think it did what needed to be done – give us a glimpse of what he future holds for the Big Three – and I was really working to not get my expectations up. I thought the very end, though choppy for me, was poignant with Jack telling Rebecca how she’ll still be in their lives.

When it was over, I thought it was “nice”. I think I liked it even more as I think back on it. I liked the scenes of all the generations on the swings. And Beth playing Worst Case (she is just the best!)

I watched it on live TV as opposed to on-demand like I usually do and I think the commercials breaking it up may have taken some of the emotion away (wished I had held out and watched it on-demand!)

We know where the Big 3 are heading and who they are heading there with. We know Deja’s and Jack’s (singer Jack) future. It would have been nice to see a little more of singer Jack last night, but I guess we already know he makes it big. I can’t help but feel like Tess got a little gypped out of a story line in general though .

I thought last week’s episode was really good - so as someone upstream said, this was the hug after all that emotion. We did get some emotion last night though with Randall’s speech and the Rebecca/Jack scenes. I thought it was nice how he said she would still be in her kids lives.

I think the show could have ended last week.

I’d call the last episode “fine.” In general, I wish the episode was a bit more geared to recent history/future prospects rather than looking backwards quite so much. The “enjoy the small moments” theme was hammered in a bit more than needed IMO. But I was glad (relieved?) that each of the Big Three seemed to settle into happy and fulfilling lives.

My favorite parts of the episode were Beth’s “worst case” game and Deja naming her son William (with Randall’s happy dance).

I did enjoy the series and our discussions here but it was about the right time to close it out.

I feel like we saw the most of Tess’ future in earlier shows, how she became a social worker or whatever her occupation was where she connected families with children. I feel like I know what happened to her, more so than an Annie or Kevin’s twins.

It was interesting, and not entirely satisfying, that there was no glimpse of the future in this episode for some of the kids (notably Tess, Annie, even Hailey and Kevin’s kids) and so much focus on Deja, with a little bit of Jack. Made a certain amount of sense as Deja is the oldest and having the first of Rebecca’s great grandkids, but still would have loved to see Tess happy and comfortable in her life.

With the events of yesterday, savoring the fleeting little moments of life seemed especially poignant. And the episode did that well.

Between the election returns running at the bottom of the screen, the tv reception breaking up due to thunderstorm, the thunderstorm, the dog barking at the thunderstorm, and my mind trying to process the day’s tragedy, I got the basics but will re-watch at a later date. Maybe re-watch the last two episodes together. I have been enjoying the cast interviews and pictures on social media. Interesting to see the young Big Three of several years ago now.

I thought it was just okay, I was expecting more. But still some brilliant moments. Last week’s was more touching. It took me awhile to understand the final pan of Jack and young Randall. I thought, “that’s it?” That’s the shot they end the show with. But I get it. If Jack had never connected with Randall, there would never have been “this” Pearson story or dynamic.

I liked CNN’s summary of the finale.

Another good article with thoughts from Dan Fogelman.

Gotta say though the Marcus story line (starting and ending) last week was pointless to me.

I agree that the final episode looked back a little too much - valuable time that could have been spent on future stuff !

I wish the finale had been an hour and a half or two hours.
