This Is Us. Anyone watching?

We had a crock pot that looked just like that when we first got married. Same coloring. Reminded me of it when I saw it in the episode. But we are heavy users so its long gone. Between using them often and using them to take food to parents/sick friends, we have gone through a lot of them. Have 3-4 now and none is very old.

Would I toss one that was functioning well or not want to use it because of the show? No way. Would starve without one. LOL Would I toss one or stop using it if it had a faulty switch? Yeah. Though faulty switches tend to result in being tossed/replaced anyway. Just not a fan of messing around with electricity. Lived in a 60+ year old house with very old wiring a while back and it always made me a little uneasy. Building a new house provides more comfort in that regard.

Was interesting to see the head fake with the old couple. Couldnā€™t figure out why they were in the episode in the beginning. Then when Rebecca said she called an old couple about buying the house, I figured it was the old couple from the beginning of the episode. Then we see George walk across the street and give the crock pot to the Pearsons. A nice gesture that went horribly wrong almost 2 decades later.

07624 is Closter, NJ. Just west of Alpine. Pricey and upscale, but not quite as much so as Alpine.

Got my D a crockpot for Christmas. After the episode I sent her a long semi-neurotic text (blaming the show) saying she should never be away from home when using it, to unplug it after use etc.

But thatā€™s the whole point of a crockpot. Putting the stuff in before work and coming home to a cooked dinner!

I do always unplug my toaster oven. I feel like Iā€™ve read that they can catch fire.

One of my Ds got in ED in 2002 and their process had been the same for a while prior to that. There was no EA at NYU back then.

My SIL home burned due to a toaster oven 30 years ago. After that, she would never leave small appliances, plugged in when not in use. While I totally understood her position, I had a problem when she would come over and unplug my appliances! The first time she did it I did not know and when to use my toaster. Imagine my surprise when the toaster wouldnā€™t turn on. I was sure it would need replacing until my husband noticed it was unplugged!

The crock pot problem, and talking about toasters, reminded me of Elizabeth Warrenā€™s story about her own toaster catching fire during the 70ā€™s, and how consumer protections since then make such productsā€“toasters getting special attentionā€“so much safer now. I worry more about a dish towel or paper towel getting too close to the toasting grid and catching fire. It never occurred to me not to trust my crock pots!

Funny all the news reports today of people, and even the maker of crockpots, tweeting about them! Safety concerns

The cattlemen sued Oprah when she defamed their product. Wait for itā€¦wait for itā€¦Crockpot lawsuitā€¦will it be a crock?

Iā€™m really wondering how Jack actually dies. We all assumed the fire was caused by an electrical issue when they showed Jack at the fuse box and the house losing power a couple of times. We were all wrong about that, even though the clues pointed us in that direction. Now weā€™re assuming he dies in the fire, or at least as a result of the fire. Could they be throwing us off again?

It does seem too obvious.

I agree. And assuming Kate and Randall are reacting to Jackā€™s death at Miguelā€™s house and Kate drives up to the burned out house with Jackā€™s possessions on the seat next to her shortly after Jack died, there is no sign of the fire (other than the burned out house itself). No one looks like they were in a fire very recently and Jackā€™s possessions are not charred.

Will be interesting to see how it all plays out. Show offers a lot of head fakes. Focus is on little thing and impacts they have on our lives.

Is there a risk that the build up doesnā€™t live up to the hype? Jackā€™s death has been building since a few episodes into the first season. Will it match the anticipation? I have read that Jackā€™s death was included in the original episodes that the writers pitched to NBC. So its been very much the plan since the beginning (and cast members from what I understand have known how it happened since the beginning as well). Presumably the writers understood the risk of not living up to the hype and are comfortable that will not be the case.

I think thatā€™s why Iā€™m glad they are doing this reveal NOT in the final episode of the season. Whatever it is, there will be more coming - and likely another cliffhanger of sorts at the end of the season - isnā€™t that what happens in most shows??

I for one will not be disappointed no matter what the reveal is. Jack died. I love his ways, his parenting, his positivity and spontaneityā€¦ That is all I need to be sad about it.

I canā€™t believe I will miss this episode because Iā€™ll be on a cruise ship!!! So annoying. I donā€™t know how I will be able to avoid hearing what happens.

I donā€™t know if cruise ships have Wifi. But if they do and you take a phone, Ipad or laptop with you, you should be able to watch the episode a day or two later online. And do cruise ships have tv? Never been on a cruise so I donā€™t know.

You pay for wi-fi on most cruise ships, but itā€™s painfully slow. We used to wait til we were in port or near a shore and could pick up a signal. DSā€™s and cousins were watching the last episode of game of thrones when we were in port this summer, and then lost the signal just before the ending!!

since most TVā€™s on the cruise will be playign the superbowl, i bet they can keep the them on afterwards , as that will get requested.

Well then I guess you have to keep away from social media/things online on the cruise (which seems to me would be the point of going on a cruise ā€“ especially if limited wifi is norm). And make sure people you talk with on the boat donā€™t tell you what happened on the show (they will have same limits in terms of access but may talk with someone ashore about it) that you donā€™t want to hear about it. Then watch the episode online when you get back to land.

^Good ideas. We can get wifi, but they said you canā€™t stream shows with it. You canā€™t even get Spotify, which is too bad because we have a portable speaker we like to take with us.

Ouch, @jym626, that must have been frustrating!

yes, @MaineLonghorn , they were frustrated! THey did manage to get to see the endā€¦ probably picked up a signal when we were near a shoreline.

One time we were in port next to a Crystal cruiseline, and I picked up their port internet for free. That was convenient!
