The parts that really touched me were Kevin’s “talk” with Jack. My father died suddenly and our last conversation was an argument, so I got that. I was also touched by Randall’s talk with Tess - I thought of S1 and his baby daughter. H and DIL watch the show so I’ll have to see how he reacted to that scene.
One thing I didn’t get - if Kevin went to Jack’s tree ( or what he thought was the tree) and said he hadn’t been there since the funeral, then he was in Pittsburgh. So on SB Sunday he drove from NJ to Pittsburgh and back again. Didn’t make sense to me.
I love Sterling K. Brown. Does anyone remember him as the psychiatrist husband in Army Wives. Another of my favorite shows accurately depicting much of military life. He can’t do a bad performance. I thought he was underrated in that show. Knew he was a star.
The one thing that confused me is how how Jack came out the front door. The fire was burning so badly up the staircase, he could hardly get around upstairs with Kate. Plus, it just gets worse. But he found the dog, and had time to get other stuff. I know it’s fiction, but…
I’m a little confused as to what Jack actually died from. If I recall correctly, it was first stated that he suffered a cardiac arrest (the heart simply stops). But later it was said he died as a result of suffering the “Widow Maker” heart attack – blockage of the left anterior descending (LAD) artery.
Did others also hear these conflicting causes of Jack’s death?
I feel like there were moments in prior episodes where I thought Jack seemed ‘off’ and might have a heart condition, but I’d have to rewatch everything to figure out why I had that nagging feeling. I’m glad there is an episode tomorrow, although I’m sure it will be as emotional as last night’s.
We watched 15 minutes and then were too worn out from getting the Eagles through the Super Bowl so saved the rest. Since I know Jack dies, I’m OK with spoilers etc.
Did anyone else watch the Tonight show? I’m not sure what the point was of having the cast on since they couldn’t even discuss the episode. Why fly them all to Minneapolis for that? Made no sense.
I couldn’t tell what the point was of having the Tonight Show at all. Who was going to stay up that late to watch Jimmy Fallon on a Sunday night? Everyone here was staying, up, sure, but they were celebrating out in the streets, shooting off fireworks, and tearing down traffic lights. They weren’t watching Fallon.
I like This Is Us. I find I alternate crying about every other week. But, when I say Jack come out of the house with the dog, I thought, that’s it?! he is going to die from complications of smoke inhalation? That’s it? This must have been a non-crying week for me.
Another night owl here, I stayed up to see the cast. I confess that I liked seeing everyone but agree that you didn’t miss much; the cast’s appearance seemed in part like an NBC marketing promotion to try and boost Jimmy Fallon’s ratings. Tonight I’m back to watching Stephen Colbert.
The only part that made me cry was seeing Tess as an adult. I love Randall, and one of my kids identifies with his perfectionism so it was so nice to see how life goes on and seems to be good for at least Randall and Tess.
I suppose this is one of the benefits of living on the west coast. The episode was over was over before 9:30pm. Plenty of time to catch up on the news as well as pre-recorded Today shows/Colbert shows, etc. even before watching Fallon (which I didn’t bother to watch and now probably won’t).
Oh, and Sterling K. Brown is wonderful indeed. He and his wife (who appeared on an early episode as the mother of an African American kid at a public pool giving advice to Rebecca) will be going to Stanford to be interviewed by the Dean of Humanities and perform some scenes from an August Wilson play. (Brown and his wife met during their freshman year when they were cast in the play together and the now-Dean was their director). Tickets sold out in 3 minutes when they became available. Would have loved to have gone…
I am on the West Coast too. Kind of fun not having to avoid spoilers since everyone was watching at the same time. I tried to stay up for Fallon, and did watch the beginning, but I didn’t make it to the This is Us cast.
I am sad of course about Jack dying. But glad he didn’t die in the fire.
I liked how they all had their different ways of dealing with the anniversary day (even Miguel).
I thought for sure that little boy was coming to live with Randall’s family. So that was definitely a psych out.
Just think of all the new plot lines now that we have stories in the future too!!
