this isn't a topic on who i should ask for recs...

...because i'm only a junior, but i want to know how i could make myself stand out or get my teachers to know me better so that when it does come down to recommendation time, my teachers would know me personally. i find it hard to know my teachers being a shy person and all, so how do i get my teachers to notice me. it's already the 2nd week of school, and only a few teachers know me by name.

just as a note, i think i might ask my ap physics teacher (who taught me honors chem last year) for a recommendation. he's pretty smart (maybe top 3 at my school) and knows me better than most teachers

I have never had the experience you describe, because my classes were tiny and I knew every kid in my school by first and last names...as well as every teacher&administrator&cleaning guy&cook, and vice versa. I would just say, speak up in class and if there seems to be no progress arrange a private study session or two. I'm sure your teacher will find the time to talk to you one-on-one even if you're just 1 speck of the class of 100s of kids (if that's the case.)

it's not that my classes are big; there are only like 20-25 kids in my class. i just want the teachers to really notice who i am so that the recs won't be impersonal and generic

bump 10 char

Speak up in class, ask questions, pay attention, and truly engage in learning. Your teachers will notice!
