Hey everyone! I got a ton of messages about the waitlist and I thought it would be more helpful to respond to them in full on here rather than respond to 10 indvidual ones. I'll try to address individual questions as well though.

Here's the advice I've been trying to give everyone -- your goal is to show the admissions officers how dedicated you are/interested in the school, and why they should accept YOU over other candidates. So, at the least you should send a letter or note expressing what talents you bring to the school. Also, update them on new achivements/contests you've won (if any). But be creative! That's what I did (I'm not going to go into details, though, sorry). An example would be sending a portfolio of your work (if you're an artist), submitting an essay or story if you're a writer, etc. Or anything else that comes to mind, even if you're not interested in any one thing.

Also, regarding FA -- I know that it's very hard to get FA if you're accepted off the WL. But it's just that it will mostly be taken up for students that have already accepted. And there might be exceptions, so take that with a grain of salt. PM me though if you want to know more about that and my personal experience.
And ... above all, boarding school is not perfect, and you shouldn't spend weeks/months dreaming about it. Maybe that one school wasn't meant for you. And there's always another year of applying. If you get in, that's great! I know how frustrating it is right now... believe me. Take action, rather than wondering what will happen. :)

Also - you won't hear anything about the WL until after April 10th, because they can't predict their yield until then. I remember the year I applied, the school sent out an email to WL candidates updating them with the situation on April 11th. (at that point, they couldn't accept any candidates, but they did later on because of shifting).

Feel free to ask me more questions and I'll answer here. I'll also try to respond to some individual questions that I got by PM. But come here if you have more questions.

Thank you Olivia! You have reassured a lot of anxious people! Are the kids at Choate nice? Are the teachers fairly available? How long after April 10 did it take to get the splendid news?

Hey – I’ve been getting a lot of mail regarding the WL - which is what this board is for! I’m sorry if not a lot of people saw it (it got bumped down). Please refer her for info. :)

And I did leave Choate - but came back. Sorry about the confusion.

No, she applied to Choate for freshman year, got waitlisted, got off the waitlist, attended for part of freshman year, left, and they kept her spot for her so she went back sophomore year.

Sorry - just came back on to freshie123’s post. I’m a little offended…what do you mean by ‘weird attitude of choate’? Not everyone is expected to like boarding school (it sounds like you think everyone should), and you won’t really know what it’s like until you go there.

^ I think freshie thought that you had gone to choate, left, and then we were waitlisted before you went back for sophomore year instead of you getting waitlisted freshman year them holding a place for you sophomore you. I think he was saying that it was weird that you were accepted for freshman year and then waitlisted before you went back (even though that’s not what happened).
