i dont remember it exactly, i dont have it with me... but it was about doing things just for the ride and not just the destination, kinda like what Chicago's philosophy on education is. But mine was cool 'cause I illustrated that by using a lawn mowing analogy.

for essay 1 am i supposed to tell a personal story that relates to the quote? i dont know what to do. or do i just simply write about what the quote means to me?

^ I think you're supposed to do what the quote says.

have anyone actually started writing their essays for any colleges??

all of the essay topics freak me out. i keep on delaying. :(

wait im supposed to do what the quote says. im still confused. AHH! sorry but can someone explain or give a short example or something?

Ours were better, I think

well the trick is that the quote implies that you should do things unscripted, or without a specific prompt. there was a similar one last year where you were sposed to describe yourself and just basically ramble. so just write whatever you feel like, but atleast start by addressing the quote in some fashion. i think.

I wrote on three of them, and chose the langston hughes one, because it was the best (I think) but now I wish I could have come up with a prompt as original as the one as I came up with for this contest.

I think that last year's prompts were much better, as well - though I do take a liking to Essay Option 4. I could totally describe myself as a graph...hmmm, a sine one, I think. :P

I always picture you as more of a crazy cosine, lover

Ah, but those cosine fuctions, I find, are uglier than sine ones. That is, I like the y=sin x more than y=cos x.

Then again, Eric, I would learn to like y= -3 + 5 cos (x - 45degrees). It looks a bit lopsided when graphed, but I am learning to like it for you.

I'm writing on the function one too, and I've started on it. It's pretty to get going once you find a graph you would like to be represented as.

The function one is funny at first, but I still love Torawarenai Kokoro (mind that doesn't stick)

i'm not sure which one i want to do!!! this is terrible! i like the brunch one, maybe i'll have all the dignitaries of the middle east from the past century, with ghandi.. and we could have world peace! ok at least peace in the middle east!

So for that one, can the dignitaries all be dead? Because I'm pretty sure it would be amazing to have a communist convention.

Think they are editing them?

2007-2008 Essays
The University of Chicago has long been renowned for its provocative essay questions. We think of them as an opportunity for students to tell us about themselves, their tastes, and their ambitions. They can be approached with utter seriousness, complete fancy, or something in between.

Each year we email the students who had been admitted the last year and ask them for essay topics. We receive several hundred responses, many of which were eloquent, intriguing, or downright wacky.

The essays for students who will be entering Chicago in the 2007-2008 school year will be released on July 18. Check back soon!

doubt they will edit them

how much do most people typically write for these essays? any recommended word count?

It's a page or two.

doubt they'd edit it since the paper version of the app is already out... someone could've conceivably already written an app and sent it in... so I doubt they'll change it... they might've taken it out since they didn't have the online app ready and the paper one was out.
