anybody seen chem 1a website yet? There is so much requirements, policies, and crap.

yeah.. i agree.. it's sort of overwhelming, i hope i get used to it once the classes start.

tell me about it... they actually want us to buy a brand new calculator... and I bought a TI-89 already, damn.

I think the site's awesome. They have every single lecture recorded and list every single reading and homework assignment.

The calculator requirement is quite a bugger...I just bout a TI-89 as well. I just read the policies and they're quite simple. I'd rather be in a class with strict policies (more objective) than in a class where the professor can just make up your grade.

yes, it's a bit overwhelming but the fact that everything is laid out carefully does seem to make things easier. It's especially nice that we can go to any lecture section we want.

I like that there isn't a curve so I won't be competing with all the hardcore MCB kids :)

That is rather irrelevant anyway, because Chem1A is notoriously difficult class, with or without a strict curve (but still not as insane as Math 1B). Be prepared.

aren't you going to be a freshman? If you have not taken the course, how would you know, hmmm? Perhaps you should leave the class evaluation to the upperclassmen, no? Where are you getting your supposed information? Share it with us, hmm?

Don't be so pompous.

Varies; some say Chem 1A is nightmarish, others not so much.

Being pompous or merely stating the truth?
Please, in future posts, indicate where you are getting your information regarding classes as you (and I) have never set foot in a Berkeley class.

By the way, are webcasts for the class working for you guys?

They were working fine for me.

okay, it's just my media player i guess.

I'm taking Math 53 partly to avoid Math 1B. I have also heard mixed reviews of chem 1A. I really wish I would have taken that AP exam.

the calculator thing was annoying but they do that so that everyone's is identical to each other for testing conditions. odd that it's not based on a curve - last year ours was. in reference to the difficulty of chem 1a - i've heard comments from various parts of the difficulty spectrum. i personally thought it was very hard (and many usually do) but some kids (esp. those who took ap chem) don't have a hard time at all with it.

what media are you using? Windows player doesn't work for me.
Hopefully, my ap chem experience will help me.

It's an rm file, so real player...

AP Chem experience does help. The first few labs are absolutely stupid, though. Get the points there while you can, because the formal labs will eat your points up.

Chem 1A is actually not that bad. If you think 1A is bad then the chem 3 series will be hell. Every point does count though, so don't slack off. If you stay on task, you should "B" fine.

i see that to get a "B" you just have to manage around 750 points/1000 points, which is a solid "C" in high school. But for "A", cutoff is 900/1000, which is what it is in high school.
Also, what's the cutoff for pluses and minuses, anyone know?
