Thought GRE Score was Cancelled

Hey everyone!

My friend (seriously, my friend, not me) is considering applying to grad schools in biology. She has a really solid GPA, great recs, lots of research...etc. She took the GRE in September, but was really sick, and didn't feel good about it after doing the quantitative section. So, she exited from the test, and saw the "you will not receive your score" message, and said "ok" thinking that this was equivalent to her cancelling her test.

She takes the test again a few weeks later, and scores really high (800Q/700V). She checked the ETS site this morning, and it shows that the first test she took was not cancelled, and it credited her with a 200V. She's really distraught now, and doesn't know what to do. Except for this major mistake, she seems like a great fit for a lot of the top programs, but she doesn't want her application thrown out because of her GRE mistake.

Other than contacting the admissions officials of each school she's applying to, is there anything else she can do at this point?

Thanks!

Well, the first thing she could try is contacting ETS and explaining her situation. But since that probably won’t work, the best thing she can do is explain this in her statement of purpose. When the people reviewing her application see a 200 score, they’ll know something went wrong, and will probably be understanding.

She never got a score report from her first sitting? If she didn’t it was ETS’ mistake and she should plan to be on the phone for a good while to get them acknowledge the mistake.

yeah ets will most likely not be helpful or be quick to admit they made a mistake. however,
since her score was so low (200 being the lowest possible) and she got an 800 (the highest possible) i think programs should be able to see there was a mistake there somewhere. shouldn’t be a big deal at all
