Thoughts on Harvard acceptance?

I have a 3.0 unweighted GPA and a 2210 SAT ( 800 M, 730 CR, 680 W)

I have all the extra curriculars you could imagine, with the captain of mock trial team and captain of model UN team at the helm.

I know one would typically think that a 3.0 has no shot, but with the combination of everything above and the restrictive early action program I still think I have a shot (I'm always optimistic about everything! :))

Let me know your thoughts / comments, thanks!

I don’t think so. Sure, your ECs are great, but Harvard can choose from people who have ECs like yours, and better, who have 4.0 UW GPA.

What is your weighted GPA and class rank?

My GPA and Class rank are not that great, but I’m still trying. Worst thing is that I get rejected right? I’m an optimist as well :D

I mean, honestly, captain of both MUN and Mock Trial isn’t that impressive unless you’ve steered both of those groups to national recognition. If you came here with a 4.0 UW and those, I wouldn’t say they were bad, but…“all the ECs I can imagine”? Hardly.

Go for it.

Give it a shot. Sometimes, it’s the essay that truly gets a person into some of these top-tier schools

I disagree with jsungoh.

I give info sessions for another HYP. I tell students and families that if they are among the handful of top scholars, known by the teachers and the prinicpal – then they might be a viable applicant. By implication, if they aren’t then they aren’t very viable either. H has under 7% accept rate. The best essay isn’t going to ressurect a 3.0 GPA. I would honestly set your focus elsewhere. On the face, it would appear you definitely have a successful collegiate career ahead of you – but not at the ultra selective colleges however. Good luck.

I’m an advocate of applying anywhere you’d like to go. But you should be prepared – you do not have a realistic shot unless there’s something truly extraordinary that you haven’t mentioned. By truly extraordinary I mean something of global interest – either you lived in a refugee camp prior to high school or you are an Olympic medalist, etc.

As often happens, I agree completely with T26E4.
