Thoughts on sending a additional letter of support for my brother's admission?

Hello all!

I am currently a senior at Duke, and my brother is an RD applicant still waiting to hear on Duke and Cornell, but his number one choice right now is Duke. I’m aware that decisions are coming out on or before April 1st, and I was wondering if sending the admissions office an additional letter of support/recommendation as his sister would be acceptable? My main concerns are that I want the letter to be worthwhile, and I’m not sure if it would be too late to send it in. I would mostly highlight his work ethic from my perspective and how his national recognition in the 7th Grade TIP Talent Search is what made me apply to Duke last minute, since my family made the trip to the campus for the award ceremony. If anyone has had a similar situation as an older sibling, I would love to hear about it, as well as thoughts in general as I would like to make this decision before the end of this week.

Thanks!

I would not recommend sending an additional recommendation in your case because recommendations from siblings or parents are not considered the same way that recommendations from teachers/professors are considered. Duke should be fully aware that your brother has an older sister at Duke through the Common App.

Thanks for the advice! Since I was uncertain about this I didn’t end up sending it in, and we found out today through a likely letter that he has been invited to campus next month for a recruitment program, very excited for him
