To all that went to the open house today, what did you like/dislike about it?

Personally, I loved the info session w/ Mark Robertson and an '07er (I forgot his name, but he was really funny). The info session wasn't the ordinary, tell-me-what-I-don't-know session, I actually learned some new things and Mr. Robertson kept everyone laughing w/ his jokes. Also, the science center was dazzling. The only thing I didn't like was that we couldn't see most of the campus on the tour because of construction and time (we had to get to the info session).

Yeah, the info session was great. On the whole, they made everything sound very perfect. Great food, great dorms, great community, great alumni network, great professors, great town, $1000 chairs, etc. There must be SOMETHING wrong with the place.

Nope, nothing wrong with the school at all. We're perfect.

who gave the lecture for the political science class? Professor McAllister?
[/quote]

LOL, I pretty much agree wink.

Yup, Professor McAliister w/ "American Power in the 21st Century". I'm so mad I missed this class, we got lost on the way there trying to take a "shortcut".

Ha, that's a funny coincidence. I had been conducting research for Professor McAllister this past summer (my last day was yesterday), and during lunch, he was telling me and the other research assistant about the lecture that he'd given earlier in the day and the one he'd have to deliver later around 1:30 in the afternoon. Actually, he planned on switching things up during the second session and focusing mainly on discussion and Q&A rather than lecture. Did anyone go to that one?

I thought the whole day was amazing. Even though it was raining at first the sun eventually came out during my campus tour, which really helped make it look beautiful. My tour guide (Jen, forgot the last name) was great, but the bad thing was we didn't get to see the whole campus due to time constraints (I DID get to see the $900 chairs though, WOW!). The whole time I was there I couldn't find a single thing I didn't like about the place. The info session was much better than any info session I've been to before. It wasn't dull and uninteresting like others. I particularly was interested in the Winter Study programs they had, all of which sounded fun. I went to the science class "The Science of Music" I think it was, which was good. She talked about different waves (but we only had time to talk about sound waves) and she showed us some pretty neat stuff I didn't know before. Not boring at all.
The bad thing is now I REALLY want to goto Williams and if I get rejected... :(

Did the classes seem fake to anyone. I didn't attend any of them, but I thought that their names would lend themselves more to hyped-up, non-representative classes. I would have liked to see something like Chem 101.

S realy enjoyed the classes....he took the Physics of Music & the Toy Story classes. Agree that it was a wonderful day & the whole event was well run. I especially liked the info session details on the tutorials....does seem like Williams does something a bit different than many US colleges here....makes me pine to go back to college!

Silver--If Chem 101 is what you're after, go to Amherst. For the cool stuff, attend a Williams tutorial. ;)
Papa Chicken, I have that same feeling every time I visit. I will miss being a Williams parent after next June.

ps....S & I lucked into acquiring 2 tickets to the Williamstown Threatre Festival showing of Romeo & Juliet the night before the open house. What a wonderful resource, the Festival that is.....added some more pizzaz to an already stimulating visit, probably my favorite yet this summer (perhaps tied with seeing some good bands surrounding a Vanderbilt open house.)

I really like the open house as well, especially the "class" with McAllister. I thought he was enthusiastic and well- versed in the material, and answered a broad range of questions with relative insight. I definitely loved the campus as well, and the admissions staff was REALLY attentive. One of them randomly sat down and chatted with my mother and I for about half an hour!
