(Note: I HATE it when the new US News rankings come out...............)

DS and I "thought" that he had a good, solid list of schools -

2 safeties - Univ of Okla, Auburn (in both with automatic admission, early action criteria)
4 matches - Purdue, Penn State, Clemson, VA Tech
1 (kinda) reach - GA Tech

DS is interested in Architectural Engineering, but there are only a limited number of schools that offer a degree in ArchEngr, and he ruled out all but Univ of Okla and Penn State due to various things (location, lack of marching band program, and in the case of Okla State - a freaky, annoying mascot! Long story.....).

Round 2 found him looking at schools that offered a solid Engr program with a specialty/concentration in ArchEngr. That led to Purdue.

Round 3 was to find good solid Engr programs in schools that also have Arch courses -and he would look at a Civil Engr degree with elective courses in Arch. That led to Auburn, Clemson, VA Tech, GA Tech.

NOW......the new USNews rankings have come out and DH is all in a huff at the choice of his 2 "safeties" because neither are listed in the top 20 for programs in Civil Engr (which is the basis for ArchEngr). In terms of overall Engr programs -Auburn is ranked at 64 and Univ of Okla at 85.

So, now we are looking at the other schools on the Civil Engr rankings list. Several he ruled out immediately (for various reasons - mainly location), and we are left with -

Univ of Ill - UC.....50/50 - his SAT falls well above the 50%,

Carnegie Mellon - "iffy" - his SAT falls below the 50%, but above the 25%

Lehigh - 50/50 - SAT about the 50%

NC State Univ (Raleigh) - no issues here - another safety

Now, here's my concern. When I think of strong Engr school........NC State doesn't come to mind. Yet it is ranked 26th for overall Engr programs and 15th for Civil Engr programs.

Evidently - I don't know anything about the school! Can anyone give me any insight, thoughts, or opinions??????

HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!
