Threats to students applying to publicly funded colleges and universities

<p>It is a very hard place for parents and students in California that want to attend public schools. It has gotten ridiculously difficult to get into the better Cali. public universities because many of the highest echelon of our students who would might have attended prestigous privates, now can’t afford to.</p>

<p>My son is graduating from Sonoma State University this May in 4 years, but he had to attend summer school at JC and supplement with JC classes during the year to graduate in time.</p>

<p>Our college advisor said to review all offers carefully as many 5+ years as projected to graduate from public can cost close to privates that offer aid and guarantee you will gets the classes to graduate in 4 years.</p>

<p>So international students are taking spots at American public universities, leaving American students out in the cold? If so they must be wealthy international students, there really isn’t very much financial aid at public universities for internationals, is there?</p>

<p>Oy! It’s always something. Is this the worst possible time for our kids to be going to college? It’s starting to seem that way. :(</p>

<p>I think part of the increase in college apps is due to the bad economy. More kids are going to school instead of out into the workplace.</p>
