Hi guys,
I know that Georgetown generally asks for three SAT subject tests. I have three, except one of them is a relatively weak score from freshman year. Should I submit what I have, or take a 4th one (SAT II Chemistry).
As a note, I’ve taken AP Chem and got a 5 on it, but I’ll only be taking this test in December (I don’t want it to affect my early apps just in case I do poorly since all my early schools only require two, which I did well on).
SAT Math II: 800
SAT US History: 780
SAT Biology M: 730 [weak score]
for what its worth:
SAT I: 710M, 800CR, 790W
ACT: 35M, 34E, 35S, 33R
Should I take the SAT Chem and risk it or not bother?
Calling a 730 a weak score is both disingenuous and off-putting. If you have the time, and it impacts nothing else, take another test. If it will impact anything, submit what you have. If you get rejected, it will not be due to a 730. Good luck.
730 a weak score
I’m done, guys.
Got in EA with: 610, 640, 770.
I’m sorry that I offended you guys-- 730 was not a weak score in my opinion, just something that a counselor at my school told me. I didn’t 100% buy what my counselor said, which is why I came to CC and tried to ask a question about it. I’m glad I amused you
For what it’s worth, a 730 in Bio M is in the 72nd percentile, which obviously means you did better than the majority of people who took the test, so I don’t think any school would see that as off putting.
Thank you @smithemi97 , I really appreciate that answer. I think I’m going to stick with my Bio score unless I feel like taking the December SAT.
You’re welcome! I find percentile charts helpful and confidence building as well haha
The percentiles are also less important for the SAT IIs, because the cohort taking each subject test is so self-selecting. The math ones and the old writing SAT II have the broadest set, so those are the ones where percentile is probably the most meaningful. Otherwise, you have native speakers skewing all the language ones and only people particularly interested in the sciences taking the science ones.
To whit: a 730 absolutely is not a weak score, but if you’re going by percentiles, it looks a lot weaker relatively, because over a quarter of people got a higher score. But that quarter of people is a small, very self-selected group, so the results aren’t representative.
Long story short: anything over 700 is absolutely a good score, unless you’re trying to be a science major at MIT or do pre-med at Hopkins or some other 0.0001% type of program.
Georgetown isn’t score choice. You’ll have to submit it anyway. And your scores aren’t weak.
@2016senior2020 I thought with the SAT 2s you can still pick and choose or not even send one of you don’t want to.
@JT199854 Nope. You need to submit everything. Quote from their website, link below: “Georgetown University does not participate in the Score Choice option available through the College Board. Georgetown requires that you submit scores from all test sittings of the SAT, ACT, ** and SAT II Subject Tests. ** Georgetown evaluates thousands of competitive applicants each year for admission; access to your full testing profile enables the admissions committee to fully and fairly assess your individual strengths in comparison to the entire applicant pool.”
