Boardingreview,

Look, I'm not saying that other boarding schools copied Andover's teaching methods. I'm saying that reputation cannot be duplicated. I'm not going to say that Milton isn't a great school -- it is. But how can you deny that prestige isn't linked to how well-known a school is for excellence? The assessment of prestige isn't confined to active boarding school researchers--it extends to the general public. As fantastic as a school is after you've sent for brochures, read the websites, done interviews, visited the campus, the prestige level remains low if your (and the general public's) first reaction to the name is: "Who?"

This is not a shot at Milton. Yes, I've heard of it. Yes, I know how old it is. Yes, I'm familiar with the definition of the word prestige. I'm not going to argue that Milton ISN'T prestigious; I'm simply trying to assert that Andover IS. Milton is up there in prestige as far as I'm concerned, and I'm sure that it is perfect for your son. I'm only trying to point out that Andover, love it or hate it, fits the definition of prestige as well.

In Korea, Thacher is much more well known then Cate. Does that make it more prestigious?

Andover by far. The name just rolls off the tongue.

It makes it more prestigious in Korea. Not necessarily in the rest of the world.
