Wow, a double legacy who has been specifically engineered – from petri dish through high school – to go to Harvard, gets into Harvard. Big surprise!

Give the lady a break! So you don’t agree with the “Tiger Moms” philosophy/methods of childrearing. Who are we to judge how others raise their kids? Let’s face it, she is only doing what she feels is best for her family. Hopefully we are all doing the same. If her older daughter was accepted to Harvard and Yale, then good for her. I’d hate to be that 18 year old girl and be under constant scrutiny. I, too, am so tired of people on CC putting others down in order to feel better about themselves.

I don’t agree with most of her methods but I was raised in the US so I’m coming from a different place. It’s not my place to criticize…

Personally, there is one area in which I agree with “tiger mom” 100% and that’s the issue of sleepovers. For me it has nothing to do with academics. It’s just that you don’t know who you can trust. Just turn on the television or read the newspapers. As kids we were taught that we could trust certain people (Catholic priests, camp counselors, teachers, parents of friends, etc, etc, etc.). Well those days are gone and as far as I’m concerned our kids need protection. Am I an overbearing 'tiger mom" because I won’t allow my kids to go to sleepovers? Hey if that’s what one wants to think then fine, but when I go to sleep at night, my kids are safe, at home in their own beds. American parents (and yes, I am an American parent) need to be more involved in what their kids are doing and what they are exposed to daily. It’s our job to protect, nurture and guide them into adulthood.

it’s sad a lot of people have criticized her without reading her book (a memoir.) i recommend watching this: [Amy Chua - Amy Chua: Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mother | Video on PBS & NPR Forum Network](http://forum-network.org/lecture/amy-chua-battle-hymn-tiger-mother). start at 22:38, where she reads her chapter “Going West.”
