Time frame/process for casting in college programs

After having lived through the 2 week or 3 week time frame (or longer) for casting at my D's high school, i am shocked(and pleased) at how short the process is in college for her.

I thought it might be interesting to hear what the process is at other schools as well!

Webster BFA MT and Acting:

*Students audition for all(both musicals and plays) shows for the semester on the first day of that semester.

*Freshman do not audition the first year, but they do watch the initial audition of all those who are ahead of them.

*MT's sing and do monologues. Acting majors are not required to sing, but can if they would like to.

*Sophomores have the least amount of time. As requirements increase, so does time.

*First Call Backs are posted by 6pm on the same day as auditions, and run throughout the week.

*Shows are cast by Friday of that week.

*There are 3 shows this semester, 1 musical, 1 Shakespeare and 1 play.

Does everyone besides freshmen get into one of the shows? it would seem like a long semester if you find out the first week that you won’t be in a show.

Well, the bottom line is there is no guarantee that you will be cast during any semester. I think that is pretty typical at many of the BFA programs that my D was interested in. I know that not everyone was cast first semester of last year(not sure about second)…but they stay very busy nonetheless.
