Any do's and don't's would be appreciated. I'm hyped for college!

Don't blow any easy A's. Don't assume the work in non-engineering classes will be zero. It may be delta or even epsilon, but not zero. :D Also, don't waste your time with dumb girls, you'll get bored.

Of course, those dumb girls do have their uses though...

Although the courses your freshman year may be somewhat easy A's(ie concepts in math or the sciences may be repeats from high school) be sure to actually learn the concepts. This sounds kind of backwards because you would think that if you get an A you pretty much know the material but this isn't always the case. I struggled in some of my math classes because I didn't take the foundation courses seriously and just went though the motions to get an A and didn't really learn it.

Sound advice. Thanks.

Any other words of wisdom? I'm not sure of the type of engineering I'll be doing just yet, however, the good thing is that at UW-Madison all students interested in engineering take an Intro to Engineering class. An interdisciplinary course, it gives a taste to students of what they'll be doing at the job, an overview of the history of the field, specific info and some immersion in each field of engineering, etc. Although I'm leaning towards ME, I'm also interested in EE and CompE, so that class will be a tremendous help.

Learn how to use the search function

Don't underestimate the importance of networking. "It's not what you know but who you know."

Study harder than you think you will need to. Really work hard for the first test, then you won't have to play catch up later.

I have a desktop, not a laptop. Will I be fine?

no, are u pathan?

2 things for getting ahead in class.

Google

go to class

2 things for getting ahead out of class

go out and do what you like

get drunk often ;) !!

Desktops are fine.

your first engineering courses will probably be weeder courses.

this means that they will be ridiculously hard.

Search for EASY gen ed classes. Engineering classes are hard enough, you probably don't want any extra work.

And just for fun, keep track of the number of students in your classes at the beginning, and when grades are posted. You'll see a big drop off...

^ Thank you
