I'm taking AP Chemistry next year and I plan on taking the SAT Subjects test on it next fall. The last time I had chemistry was honors chem last year and my teacher wasn't very good... We focused mainly on the calculations and no concept. I only remember skimming a section of the text book twice. I heard that Chemistry was one of the hardest APs. The AP chem teacher is 3 times as hard. Do you have any tips for me as I prepare over the summer like memorizing part of the periodic table, etc?

Don’t memorize the periodic table! I would just buy yourself an AP Chemistry prep book like 5 steps for a 5 or Princeton Review and try to learn a few things out of it. That’s what I will probably do.

Yeah same here
Should I buy the AP Chem textbook? What is a good review book??

AP Chemistry Textbook - I recommend Chemistry: The Central Science.
Review book - Princeton Review

study for the ap exam two months ahead of time

^That is what I did.

Dude, don’t buy PR. It won’t help you for the actual test. If you will actually use the book throughout the year, buy Peterson’s or something. Something like PR is good for last minute studying, but I would NOT recommend doing that for Chem.

Actually, this is how I kinda prepared:

9th-10th summer: Memorized elements 1-86. I did it mainly out of fear of my teacher the next year for advanced chem. I suggest being able to know the atomic numbers and weights of each element 1-54 just to make the test easier.

Main Textbook: AP Chemistry: The Central Science
Prep Book: PR

If you know everything in AP Chem Crash Course by REA and do all the free responses from the last decade, you should have enough to get a 5.

For the Class, buy Peterson’s or Barron’s. For the Exam, buy PR. If you are cheap just choose PR or Peterson’s. I would go for Peterson’s since i have both
