Tips, Insights, Observations and Scoop on USC's top merit scholarships

Just for a comparison last year there were 249 NMScholars enrolled in SC’s freshman class. For 2012 it was 251 and in 2011 it was 247.

Merely looking at these numbers makes me feel like an ant. I’m honestly very surprised at these stats; I applied by Dec. 1st thinking that very few applicants did. This is very humbling.

I’ve been picturing every Q&A possible for the interview…More often than not I find myself babbling. My mom thinks I’ve gone crazy from talking to myself so much. :P

Any advice for keeping your cool not only before the int. but during it as well? :)

I have no scientific data to back up my statement. However, after going through the process with my daughter 2 2 years ago I suggest being yourself and showing the true enthusiasm for USC that came through in your application. You were invited because they liked what they saw in you and thought you would be a great addition to the USC class. My daughter interviewed for, and received, a Presidential scholarship. Maybe there is more strategy needed for the full scholarships. Let me also say that my daughter says the single best decision she has made in her life was to attend USC! Fight On!,

bump… deadline is approaching for merit awards, so thought this year’s applicants might like to read more about it. Start from first post and good luck to all.

So what is the predicted date for this year when we’ll find out if we for a scholarship?

^^ wondering the same-- the wait is agonizing!
Also, do the people who get it find out by mail only, or is the USC portal updated too? Do they send out an email? I’m so confused ahhhh

My year there was a glitch in the system and our portals changed as well, but we got our Jan 25-26. However, the USC admissions page said early February.

@dragonflymusic‌ how do you know that the letters will be sent out early feb this year instead of late jan?

dragonfly is referencing a twitter post made by USC admissions, the early Feb info can easily be found if you look at USC admission sites.

@CADREAMIN‌ the usc website says its in february (http://www.usc.edu/admission/undergraduate/docs/uscScholarships1516.pdf) but in previous years, theyve been delivered in the last week of jan, is it just different this year?

We’ve seen a history of USC giving a date but the news actually arriving earlier than they promise. We cannot know if things will change this year, but it is likely (based on the past) that decisions will be sent the last week in Jan. In the past, it has been around the 25th or so. Takes time for mail to be delivered, so those on the East Coast often hear a few days after the West Coast. In the past, there were some clues online (like portals to reserve spots in ExploreUSC, the 2 day event where scholarship finalists are interviewed). Each year there can be a new wrinkle, but my best guess is the letters may get mailed on Friday. Just a GUESS. Good luck to all.

Thank you @madbean‌

I just received an acceptance with presidential scholarship finalist. Can anyone describe what the interview is like?

@ykk1203, what area are you from?

@DiffMom I’m from Los Angeles.

@ykk1203, Thanks for the info. Was wondering which areas were getting their letters. Guess we’ll keep an eye on the mail next week. Congratulations on getting an invite! Check the USC threads. I thought I saw one with discussion on the interviews.
