Merit scholarship!?

hey so i put my application in by the dec 1 scholarship deadline but didn't end up getting any merit based aid. is it possible, now with a lot of the people who received money choosing to attend other schools over usc, to get some merit-based aid? i think i was right about at the cut-off and i could REALLY use the money. do i re-send my application to admissions or something..!? has anyone ever achieved getting merit scholarships after the initial hand-out? thanks!!

I don’t think it’s possible at this point, they factor in the fact that not everyone will attend
'sc even with merit scholarships given to them. your best bet is to apply to external scholarships at this point.

ughhhhhhhh :</p>

Sam,
Over 20,000 seniors applied for the merit scholarships. I am uncertain of the exact number, but roughly 1000 + were asked to interview for the Trustee and Presidential Scholarships. Some other scholarships such as Town and Gown also required an interview as part of the selection process. It was the highest number of applicants ever for the merit scholarships. You had some very stiff competition.

The university does not expect every recipient to accept the scholarships. These students are high achievers in some field. It may be academics, music, art, cinema, theatre, leadership, service or other accomplishments. A few may have had to surmount enormous challenges to succeed at a top level in high school. These students have many choices. If you check the decisions thread I think you will find the newly committed freshmen turned down excellent colleges to become Trojans.

Each school at SC has scholarships for continuing students. After you enroll study and excell at the highest level. You may then be eligible to apply for one of these scholarships.

Did you apply for financial aid? Have you checked the internet for community based scholarships or those given by religious or civic groups?

thanks a lot! yeah i was surprised when i didn’t get one. it just shows the academic quality of this incoming class. i saw some info about those scholarships for continuing students. hopefully i can apply for some. and i’ve been scrounging around for some external ones but its been tough to find any. i think i got like one for 1k but its hard to find them.

thanks for the help! looks like ill just go in debt haha

when i went for trustee session, someone asked about it. they just said if not a lot of people accept the offer then usc “saves money”.

they mentioned they usually have about a 50% yield on those who get trustee, although im starting to doubt itll be that high this year. i know 8 people including me who got trustee and none are going
