Tips on Extra Curriculars

I'm an Engineering student currently in a CCC aiming for Berkeley. Im very confident that I can maintain a 3.8-4 Transfer GPA, my only thing holding me back is extra Curriculars so I'd like some advice from you guys.

Right now I'm doing a Space Balloon Research project at school, are these the kinds of ECs that help my application stand out? I really want to get an internship somewhere but most companies look for people with programming/CAD skills. I'm a first year engineering student so I don't have much experience with either. I will eventually take some computer programming classes and auto cad, but until I do is it possible to get internships anywhere? I have friends who have gotten internships at Boeing and I honestly don't know how. Theyre average students and really dont have any special talents or abilities out of the norm.

My uncle is basically a computer hacker and makes a lot of money by helping companies secure their networks and stuff. He says I should learn how to do that kind of stuff as it would give be a background in IT, would that make my applications to universities or jobs stand out?

This may be off topic, but I am a YouTube partner and I make a lot of quality YouTube videos about technology. Its actually my job because I make a good amount of money from it, much more than I would at a retail store. Not many people, let alone students, do something like this. Could this potentially make my application stand out?

Thanks for any advice. I'm still early on in my college career, but i want to make sure I have the best possible shot at getting into Berkeley.

Anything that is related to your major is a good thing. They like to see that you really take an interest in your major and that it’s something you’re passionate about.

I have to ask, what is your YouTube account? Haha if you’re a really big youtuber maybe that’d help because schools might want Internet “celebrities” at their school.

^Like Alexandra Wallace? :-P

Extra curricular don’t matter THAT much for transfer students. Of course you need to have some/ decent amount, but it’s better to focus on your grade imo, and your grade right now is pretty good.

Agreed. Never do ECs if they could mean the difference between a B+ and an A-. However, if they won’t affect your grades, major-related work experience is the best non-academic thing you can have.
