My audition is next month, and I want some song suggestions.

I’m a Soprano, and my highest note is D above High C.
I want to do one song that shows off my head voice, and one that shows off that I can belt.

I’m afraid no one is going to feed you a song list. You’ve got to find your own material that speaks to you. At this late date, it should probably be material you know well. New material is fun, but a bit tricksy when it comes to high stakes auditions. I should think you would have at least a few muscial theatre numbers that are well matched to your voice and style? Even if they seem “been there, done that,” working them up and making them fresh might bring out the best in you. And practice makes perfect. If you know your songs down pat, the nerves won’t get the better of you. A new song could be totally undone in a high pressure audition. A solid, rehearsed song can be sung in your dreams–and that’s what you should be striving for in auditon.

I was going to suggest you do an old movie song (from Show Boat or Chicago or Cabaret or something) but I am guessing that your audition is already over. Hope it went well :)

Yes, We’d love to hear back from you. I was afraid I came off a bit snarky in my above post and perhaps scared you off! Which is the exact opposite of what we CC posters want to do, of course. We’re here to support and encourage you. I just know from my own son’s experience that trying to introduce a relatively new, unfamiliar song at a tough audition can be stressful. So can a untested monologue. Still, with practice–and perhaps with that extra level of enthusiasm that comes from finding the perfect song on monologue–it can be carried off with great success. In any case, best wishes!
