Best of luck BB

I wanna watch Robot, Anjana Anjani and The Social Network badly

They had a free screening of The Social Network here about 2 weeks back. Haha.

Before release date? Woow.

So guys, I was wondering, why the hell is Harvard ranked number 1 with a score of HUNDRED if it is not top-ranked in most programs? I mean, it’s just good for law, med and business.

Also, UMich shud be in the top 10! EVERY major offered by UM is in the top 10, man.

Perhaps they normalize the score to 100 for the top rank.
In my view both UMich and UCB should be in top 10.

Here are my top 10 as of today (this is likely to change tomorrow :)):

1) MIT
2) Harvard
3) CalTech
4) Princeton
5) Stanford
6) UChicago
7) UCB
8) Yale
9) UMich
10) UCLA

The ranking system is so weird man.

UM is easily a top 10 school.

Why in the world is UIUC or even Purdue for that matter ranked so low? :S

Even Georgia Tech. Easily a top 20 school

Vanderbilt sucks a s s. Why’s it in the top 20?

Such BS

ani, I think we all should have our own top 10 and stick to it. You didn’t list yours.

Tippu why UCLA?

My top 10 is related to my prospective major (comp science), location, cost, exposure, academics, undergrad teaching, etc.

So here goes-

MIT

Stanford

UCB

Caltech

CMU

UMich

Georgia Tech

Cornell

Princeton

Columbia

This, mainly looking from an indian engineering student’s perspective.

Rensselaer Polytechnic is another under-ranked institution. Very strong for engineering.

I just met an RPI alumni today. Convinced about wanting to get in there.

Funnypunjabi, how’s UCSD? I’m gonna apply there.

Also, which UC campuses should I apply to for CS? And how difficult/easy is it to transfer to UCB if I don’t get in now?

Ok, I get the point about UCLA (shows my west coast/CA bias)

Here is my revised list for today:

[ol]
[] CalTech
[] Harvey Mudd
[] MIT
[] Stanford
[] UCB
[] Princeton
[] UChicago
[] Brown
[] Cornell
[] UMich
[/ol]

Notes:

[ul]
[] Harvey replaces Harvard for Eng.
[] Replace UCLA with Cornell
[] I feel Brown Eng > Yale Eng.
[] UChicago doesn’t have Eng and it is still in my list and idk why. I don’t mind replacing it with either CMU or GaTech or UIUC.
[/ul]

Columbia for engineering? Give me a break.

WHY is Brown engineering top 10?

@aniruddh -
CMU’s CS program definitely comparable to that of MIT’s and wayyy better than that of Caltech’s.

^ Exactly.

If you put Brown for engineering in the Top 10 then you’d rather replace it with Columbia.

Also consider CMU.
Northwestern’s freshman engineering curriculum is awesome too. So much so every school is copying it now. And idk about ranking… but any college where you can get a Boeing internship after freshman year is good.

You can leave out UIUC imo. It’s too rural… and cornfield-ish.

Don’t forget UIUC if you’re talking CS

I talked to a UNC grad student who had done his undergrad from NW. He said the comp science department there was going downhill.

IMO CMU has the no. 1 program in CS.

I didn’t imply that Brown was top in 10 for engineering. Not at all. I like some of the research work in their EE department. That’s all. It is not easy to come up with ultimate top 10. Eventually you have to consider other factors such as location and cost.

No one I know disputes that CMU is #1 for CS. I find their computational biology program very interesting.

Hmm makes sense…

Columbia because I generally love the university a lot (visited it actually)
I’d replace that with Harvey Mudd though.

Can someone dish out advice about the UCs?

Very expensive. :(
