Can anyone tell me what this is as it relates to Federal Aid?
Need more info.
My DS received an email from a school that requires him to either “agree or disagree” before the school can continue to process his FAFSA. Does this help?
From my student’s school web site:
“Federal student financial aid can only cover “institutional charges” as defined by the DOE. This definition includes current year charges for tuition and fees, as well as on-campus room and board. Unless authorization is received, federal financial aid cannot be used to cover non-institutional charges such as: Campus Health fees, Student Stores charges, library fines, damage fees, returned check fees, lost key fees or any other charges not directly tied to taking a class.”
If you choose not to allow your federal aid to pay for non-tuition/fee charges, you can wind up getting a refund check but owing a balance … I don’t recommend saying no to allowing Title IV aid to cover non-institutional charges. Allowing it to cover the non-institutional charges makes sense, since you have to pay them, anyway.
Thank you.
