TO ANYONE HAVING DOUBTS ABOUT BEING ADMITTED/APPLYING

If you are having doubts about applying or even being admitted, do not be discouraged if your credentials do not satisfy EVERY aspect of what UMD says it is looking for.

I am currently a freshman at the University of Maryland - College Park. I remember last year when I was applying I was having doubts about being admitted because everyone said that UMD is very much focused on data. Out of my experience, ( I guess everyone's will vary slightly), I believe that UMD focuses on the student as a WHOLE rather than keying in on a specific category.

I made a thread to show anyone on here doing the "CHANCE ME" discussions to not be discouraged to apply if someone says you have a very low chance of getting in!

Not only did I get admitted to the University as a regular student( no freshman connection) I was also admitted into their scholars program! If you lack credentials in a certain category make sure the other categories make up for that. ALSO contrary to popular belief... SAT'S ARE NOT EVERYTHING. Mine SUCKED.. but my GPA was good and extracurricular activities were good as well and I got in...

GOOD LUCK TO ALL! STAY POSITIVE!

SIDE NOTE: MAKING YOURSELF STAND OUT IS EXTREMELY HELPFUL

ALSO UMD IS AN AMAZING SCHOOL! ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT HERE & I AM DOING GREAT (:

Congratulations on being admitted! It is an awesome school and I’m glad that you are thriving there. Given your SAT scores I think you were fortunate to be admitted. Of course they look at the student in total, but none the less, it is a very stat driven school. Again, congratulations and I hope you continue to do well and have a great time!
