If you want the coach to advocate for you as recruit, it helps to be able to "strut your stuff" ie row with the squad. Sometimes recruits fit in so well in boat, team will voice that recruit would be asset and coach absorbs feedback. So my perspective is from a person who wants to be seriously considered for the sensational crew team Wesleyan has. Walk ons are welcome but you then have to get in on your own steam.

Mamamax the NCAA doesn't allow that.

ncaa doesn't allow what?

Recruits can observe practice, but cannot practice with the team. Never seemed like a good rule to me tho

Recruiting Guidelines for Senior Prospective Student-Athletes
-Official visits are permitted & coaches can meet with prospects at this time as long as it is not a competition day for the prospect.
-On-campus evaluations (tryouts or a coach viewing an open gym) are not permitted.
-Off-campus evaluations are permitted (a coach can watch a prospect’s game or practice). The coach can talk to the prospect’s parents during the game. The coach may also meet with the prospect once he/she is released from the high school coach.
*Note- The NCAA does not permit athletic staff to provide off-campus meals for prospects or their parents.
-Telephone calls & emails are permitted (initiated by either the prospect of the coach).
*Note – the NCAA does not permit athletic staff to text message or facebook/myspace prospects – effective 8-1-08
-Prospects are permitted to attend summer campus/clinics even upon graduating from high school.

"On-campus evaluations (tryouts or a coach viewing an open gym) are not permitted."

Rowing with the squad during a practice does not equate to the above definition. Reality is that times are even more difficult to qualify as a "recruitable athlete", and getting a coach to go all is a highly competitive process. More power to classical guitar who appears to be a dynamo with regard to his erg scorces. And yes indeed, there is another member of the crew team who is 5'8. Keep us posted, classical guitar, and I hope you join this spectacular
group of men on the team.

please take this pointless and, worse, boring discussion somewhere else.

p.s. JUST VISIT

Johnwesley, if you mean the kelleys as in Jack Kelley who rowed at Vesper and his son, no i am not related to them, but my father rowed at Vesper and he has always told me stories of the Kelleys and their victories at Henley and the Olympics, but no im not related, it would be sweet if i was tho...

Krongman,

If you are not interested in rowing at Wesleayn and its ramifications ,just skip this topic, but do not attempt to dictate what folks discuss . You end up sounding like a bully so contra to the Wesleyan traditiom of free speech and collaborative discussions.
