<p>Hello all!</p>

<p>I'm a Canadian student (eh?), and it would be awesome if you all could give me an idea of my chances for Wharton.</p>

<p>Profile:
- Male
- Legacy: nope.
- able to speak conversational french
- single: yes for all the ladies out there</p>

<p>Standardized Testing:</p>

<p>SAT's (superscored) = 1570/1600, 2300/2400
CR = 800
WR = 730
M = 770</p>

<p>SAT's II:
Math 2 = 800
Physics = 800
Chem = To be taken in Jan. (probably will be 'round 750ish)</p>

<p>Academics:</p>

<p>I'm in the International Baccalaureate (IB) Program which is the most rigorous curriculum offered in my area. I am also attended top ranked school in my region.</p>

<ul>
<li>standard level biology - level 7</li>
<li>standard level economics - level 7</li>
<li>standard level french - level 4</li>
<li>higher level english - predicted level 6</li>
<li>higher level math - predicted level 7</li>
<li>higher level chemistry - predicted level 7</li>
<li>IB predicted score - 38 + 2 = 40/45</li>
</ul>

<p>overall, my average last year was around a 93-94%</p>

<p>GPA: Not sure, but I think around a high 3-4 unweighted?</p>

<p>Class Rank: My guess is top 5%.</p>

<p>Extra-Curriculars:</p>

<p>Student Presidents' Council (student representative organization for the largest region in Canada)
- served as Minister of Public Relations - dealt with the District School Board's trustees and heads
- organized and planned a leadership conference for over 100 kids</p>

<p>DECA:
- Finished 4th place at provincial competition for DECA - won a place at the international career development conference held in dallas, texas
- held title of Vice President in chapter</p>

<p>Regional Science Fair
- designed and developed a more efficient hockey skate
- recognized for ingenuity with silver medal</p>

<p>The Arts:</p>

<p>Royal Conservatory of Music Classical Piano
- completed grade 8 classical piano
- same program from which Glenn Gould graduated</p>

<p>Volunteer:</p>

<ul>
<li>Team Captain of Volunteers at local hospital - responsible for coordinating and managing volunteer efforts - over 100 hours</li>
</ul>

<p>Athletics:
- Varsity Baseball Team - since grade 11
- League Hockey - select level
- Swimming - in process of certification for National Lifeguard Service</p>

<p>Awards:
Top 25% in PASCAL math competition
Two time Student of the Month Award Winner</p>

<p>Hooks:
nay.</p>

<p>Essays:
hopefully good.</p>

<p>Recs:
- teacher ones were probably average at best
- Guidance rec. should be better than average</p>

but make sure to show ur personality and unique characteristics in ur essay.
cuz probably lots of students applying upenn have perfect grades like urs</p>

<p>wharton? idk.. maybe just apply to the college then transfer.</p>

<p>transferring doesn't work too well at Upenn, I asked an alum and she told me it was MUCH harder to transfer into Wharton than out</p>

<p>im sure it would be hard - might have to wait a semester/yr - but if u rele wanted to and if u tried hard enough im sure theyd let you in...
EDIT: @ my campus tour the guide said it usually takes a semester</p>

<p>^ it is not easy to transfer into Wharton and is getting harder all the time.
The OP should apply to Wharton, if that is where he wants to go. His strong math scores certainly will do him no harm, and his ecs seem an appropriate fit with Wharton.</p>

<p>It takes ONE YEAR to transfer from anywhere to anywhere. Your campus tour guide, or you, is a liar.</p>

<p>You're in at Wharton, in my opinion. Don't belittle the college, Acceptd. </p>

<p>Finally, it's easier to transfer in than apply. You only need around a 3.8 GPA. But Penn usually does a good job of declining students who apply elsewhere to transfer in.</p>

<p>im trying hard to not take offense to "Don't belittle the college" due to the fact that upenn is my #2.. if you're angry at me for repeating info i've heard from students actually in the college, then you have your own issues to worry about.. and i'd have to disagree with the "in at Wharton" comment with the lack of a hook / lack of confidence in your own essays.</p>

<p>I'd say, "apply!"
Scores and EC's are good, so I hope the soft factors are good: recs, essays. Why would you say the teacher recs are average? If you gave them to teachers that liked you from classes in which you shined, then there should be no problem. Either way, you're likely to get in.</p>

<p>Contrary to what a few believe, no "hooks" are necessary to be accepted in Penn (that includes Wharton to any Wharton > Penn persons). For Penn, the "hooks" are your essays. </p>

<p>If you've been to their monthly admissions meeting, you'd understand that most admissions officers don't weigh things like "Volunteered abroad" or "Conducted research with xyz professor" or "senior manager at <insert dad's="" company="">" or even "Winner of Intel Science xyz competition" That's all great but many times, it has little to do with how qualified you are. Rather, it has to do with how well you are connected and how privileged you are.</insert></p>

<p>Penn looks for students who are outperformers overall. You don't need a "hook." If you come to Penn, you'll realize that most of your peers don't have a "hook." </p>

<p>So apply. Deadline's fast approaching.</p>

<p>If I'm not mistaken, Pascal is a grade 9 competition offered by CEMC. Assuming you're a senior, it would help if you put down any awards for Cayley, Fermat/COMC, because it'll show you're still keeping up with the math competitions :)</p>
