To dorm or not to dorm

Hey guys, I just got into cooper and was wondering whether i should dorm or not. I live in queens, a hour train ride away from cooper. I want to know what I will and wont be missing (specific things) out on if I dont dorm. Conversely, what are the pros of dorming (specific things). By specific things, Im asking about events, participation in clubs etc. what ever you can think of. Thanks

Congratulations!!

Well, of course, there are finances… living at home will be cheaper.

But I think that living on campus will make it easier to attend all the things that the people below me (who know a lot more about Cooper Union than I do) will list.

I just have visions of missing that midnight train out of Penn, waiting 2 hours for the next one, seriously impacting some of the things you’ll want to be involved in.

I agree with bjk. I would pose the question differently. Why not stay on campus? The only reason is if you don’t have the financial means. You will be better rested, have more time to study, and be more involved socially if you can save the 2 hours a day you would spend commuting. IMHO

Keep in mind that they will be charging somewhere between 1,200 and 2,400 dollars per credit above 19.5 starting September 2015. To stay afloat at Cooper, you will likely be taking around 21 to 25 credits per semester. Keep that in mind when calculating finances.

Its okay i wont be going to cooper anymore.

Thanks for all the help though

You made the correct decision
