Hello. This fall, I will start my 4 year university after transferring from a Community College. These are the classes I am taking .
Statics 3 credits
Thermo 1 : 3 credits
Prob and Statistics: 2 credits
Engr Materials and Processes : 2 credits
PDE: 3 credits
Total 13 credits
Will this be to many credits that I am taking as a 4 year student for the first time ? I do not need PDE since it’s not part of my ME curriculum. I am only taking it since it interests me, and I need at least 12 credits to be full time student . Because I have not yet fulfilled the rest of pre reqs , I can not take anything else on my ME curriculum .
I would replace PDE with an easier elective. You don’t have to take it, you’re already taking several difficult STEM classes, and for most people it’s much harder than ODE.
It’s not an abnormal ME schedule. In fact, by hours, it light. You might want to look up how many hours you need to average to graduate on time. Now, that said, the jump from CC to Uni can be a shock. The pace will generally be higher and the testing harder. Putting off something and replacing it with an easier GE might not be a bad idea. The best candidate looks like PDE, but you don’t need to write it off forever. Add it back in once you have your feet on the ground. Have fun. Good luck!
All that’s really known from national surveys is that engineering students spend more time studying than other majors. As @boneh3ad said, how long it takes YOU, depends on YOU. Given that schedule the time you’d need to spend depends on your foundation, your mental horsepower, your organization, and your study skills. You need to do as much as you need to do.
