The Princeton forum has gone absolutely crazy, as the decision day approaches. Almost NONE of the threads are about Princeton. Any lurker or casual visitor will be driven nuts at such a chaotic forum.
However, what’s good is that no one complains. There are a couple dozen regular posters who “hang out” on the Princeton forum.
I think it will be a very good idea to create a separate Princeton Lounge forum for chitchat.
Actually, this has been under consideration for the busier school forums. Any other comments?
I agree because it is a pain to sort through the chitchat.
I would say to do this for all the schools who have over 5,000 posts (because there is bound to be “chitcaht” in boards that large).
How about we just abolish worthless threads like the numerous “OR” Threads, which detract from the quality of these sub-forums, and limit them to the Cafe?
If people could post only things to do with the school we wouldn’t have this problem.
Addendum to my earlier post:
The new sub-forums, i.e. “Princeton University 2009” are awful because they split up the board. For example, there’s a great thread in PU2009 comparing Stanford to Princeton, but few will ever see it. People aren’t sure which forum to post in, so it just splits the community.
A more clearly-defined board, such as “Off Topic Princeton Lounge” would be more useful though.
